Favourite Original King's Quest Game

#1 Post by Music Head » Sat Sep 09, 2006 11:33 am

I'm just curious to see what everyones favourite game was from our beloved King's Quest series  ;) .

I'd have to say mine would be 6. No real particular reson, just enjoyed playing through that one the most.

I say 5. It was the first one I played so it has a special spot for me. I hardly played any of them much and the ones I did play I didn't play much so that one has to be my favorite.

I really enjoyed 5 aswell. It had some great backgrounds and brilliant music. It was a close call between 5 and 6.

I voted for 3, as it was pretty much the first one I ever played, even though I've never managed to get very far in it...

I actually like 6 best currently, as it's the best point and click Kings Quest game I have. Five seemed underdeveloped, with many portions of the enviroment not even responding to observation.  Six on the other hand had the classic Sierra feel I had come to expect from other Quest games, with sevral intelligent puzzles, and an engaging storyline... the list goes on and on...

It was between 5 and 6 for me as well and 6 didn't have Cedric.

I'm one of the few poeple on the planet that liked Cedric. Mostly because I was somewhere between 4-6 though.

I have to go with IV. It was well-structured and the puzzles were challenging but fun. And I beat it without hints, so that's always a plus.

That would be KQ5. Love the graphics, love the story, love the atmosphere, but most of all I love the soundtrack.

I've chosen KQ6, but honestly, I never particularly liked any of the King's Quest games. Too twee for me.

I just played all of the King's Quest games in a row and I've come to the conclusion that IV and VI are the best in the series. And after close consideration, V really bugs me. I love the story of V and the puzzles are brilliant, but the game is ruined by the poorly done script. There are parts of it that were obviously rushed through. For example.

Witch: Don't you know you're (cackle) trespassing?
Graham: (sarcastically) Oh I'm sorry. I didn't know this was private property. Do you own this forest?
Witch: Of course I own it! (Cackle) It's MINE!

Trust me, play the game again and you'll find yourself cringing at a lot of the dialogue. Great plot, great adventure, great artwork. Poor script.
Please note this is my opinion and I don't want to force it on anyone, so I'm sorry if this is your favorite game. To each, their own.

I don't see anything wrong with that bit of dialouge? Probably just me though.

KQ6 is my fave, KQ5 is a close second as it was the first KQ I ever played but the dead ends are a turn off for me.

I don't even remember making this two year old thread :\ . Still loving 6. Recently got a hold of a copy of the cd version with high quality charater portraits and speech. Makes the game even more awesome!

Reading back on the comments about 5, I really need to get a hold of a copy again and replay through it. Lost everything in a recent format. *sigh* was unable to back anything up.

EDIT: Just got a hold of the cd version of 5. Just got to wait for it to arrive ;) . YAY.

I've never liked the King's Quest series. Very twee, sickly, and hopelessly bland. KQ6 was probably the best out of the lot of 'em, but even that was pretty meh, in my opinion. Sorry guys. Should I expect a lynching?

That's your opionon and your rightly welcome to it ;)

KQ is my favourite of all the quest series, but different people like different games.

Space Quest is by far my favourite, but I still enjoy King's Quest a lot as well. I don't like KQ4, myself. Though many here seem to for some reason. I guess I just don't have the same attachment to it because I never played it as a kid. And I understand why many would hate KQ5 for the bugs and horrible voice acting (aside from Josh and a few others), but it's the most nostalgic King's Quest for me.

Well, it's a little harder to see my point when it's just in writing. Mostly it's the voice acting as someone pointed out before. The quote in boldface "Of course I own it. It's mine!" was just redundant. I thought they could have come up with a more clever way of saying it.
