Ghoul City

#1 Post by MagusRogue » Fri Aug 29, 2008 12:30 am

I remember somewhere that the Coles originally intended to make a city in the desert full of ghouls, and the AGDI team thought about putting it in. I was just wondering if you guys finally decided to do it or not, and if anyone's found the city if they did?

Initially, the Coles wanted to make the Forbidden City less like an underground cave and more like a lost city in ruins. There were some pretty zany ideas in there, like mechanical traps, hordes of ghouls (who did indeed look more like zombies than fleshless skeletons) and naga's who'd hypnotize the hero, force him to impregnate them and then feed him to their offspring, black-widow style. (no really)

However, those were all initial ideas just like the idea of making the first QFG have multiple races...they were just ideas though. There were several reasons we kept things as they were:

1) The forbidden city was already completely scripted and had taken a lot of time. Throwing it all away wouldn't be done easily.
2) Those ideas were just ideas. Not much was actually developed into a form a programmer could use.
3) It would have been one hell of a radical departure from the game as people knew it.

Those design documents were fun to read, but not everything in there could be slapped into the game just like that. Many ideas in there were discarded for a reason.
