how to make (good) King's QUest 5 like Backgrounds 320x200

How do you do that?
I KNOW you guys know, as I've seen your games.
I need to know how to make trees, paths, grass, and buildings.
I have the GIMP and ART GEM.

Any Help?

You should scour the forums of the places you visit.

If you looked at the Game Creation thread over at IA, you'd have noticed this thread.

A lot of links and goodies in there for ya. It'll help a lot.

Well, I looked there, and many other places, I found some great stuff too, but it somehow didn't have the same feel as KQ5.
I looked closely at kq5 screenshots, but I can't figure out what is different.
Any idea?

Yeah. The backgrounds in KQ5 were hand-painted by professional artists (using acrylic and watercolor on canvas, I think) and then scanned into a computer.

So, dust off the ole paintbrushes, watch some Bob Ross videos, and prepare to spend years learning how to paint.

That's the difference.

It's better than it actually sounds, really. You spend years making a game, anyways. Just start learning how to paint while you program two or three games and before you know you'll be able to produce really cool images.

The higher the quality of your sources, the better you'll become. A bad Boris Vallejo imitator is still 1000 times better than a good Toriyama one. :p

Well, I don't think I can become a professional artist very fast :lol I would like to know, did AGD or IA use hand painted stuff, I would like graphics like those as well.

Thanks

I'm repeating my question so this stays on topic.

He was quoting Bob Ross, an American Painter who had a show on PBS called "The Joy of Painting". He used his program to teach people how to paint scenes quickly, efficiently and easily. Here's a YouTube video of him in action. Bob spoke in a very even and measure tone, and used phrases like "let's paint a happy little tree right here" in his instruction.

As for IA, no we did not use handpainted backgrounds. All of our artwork was created in photoshop, using many of those techniques that were listed in the thread link I posted earlier. Now, I can't with 100% certainty speak for AGDI, but I'm pretty sure they used a similar technique. Sometimes what we would do is sketch the background out on paper, scan it in, and then paint it in photoshop. But we've never used acrylics and scanned them.

I do believe, however, that Al Emmo had hand-painted backgrounds.

Thanks for all that. I found this "Bob Ross Brush" for photoshop. I'm also trying out some of the other tuts from the forum link you gave me.
Thanks
