Merry Christmas (Free Christmas Carol Cover Inside)

#1 Post by MusicallyInspired » Mon Dec 08, 2008 1:47 am

I know it's early but a week from Tuesday I'm going to be flying down to Texas to spend the holidays with my family. Can't wait to escape the cold Manitoba weather!

Anyway, the youth group at my Church is having a Christmas concert next Sunday night and they asked me if I wanted to play anything for it. My favourite Christmas carol has always been Carol of the Bells so I said I'd do a version of that. I love the Transiberian Orchestra version so I made a cover of it completely from scratch that I could play along with at the concert. It'll be the opening song so I thought it'd be cool to open with the original a capella version. Would create a cool atmosphere. Anyway, I also made a version with the lead guitar in it so I could upload it. So consider this a king of best wishes for the holiday seasons for all you guys. Enjoy.

That's weird Brandon, I'm also spending the holidays in the states to see my brother in Las Vegas. Great canucks think a like I suppose. Love the song by the way, never heard it before in it's originality but I have heard the TSO version on CanadaAM.

Aw, does this mean I'm not a great Canuck?

P.S:
I too very much like the song.

you're great in your own way, like being from that one part of Canada that no one knows about but totally kicks ass for it's sea food.

Hey, that part of Canada kicks the butt of any other part of Canada any day. (I speak, of course, of all the maritime provinces)

Funny you should mention Home Alone. The opening a capella section is from the Home Alone soundtrack :D. Edited to be shorter, though. Aside from that I recorded everything from scratch....well....I sequenced the orchestra stuff, but I did record the guitars. I did not compose this, though. It's a straight cover of Trans Siberian Orchestra's version which is also quite good and sounds a little better. But overall I'm pretty proud of the mix. I'll let you all know how the performance goes on Sunday.

Here's the performance as it happened last night. I played it twice, actually. I was the opening number and then they encored me to play again at the end. The first video had someone talking in the background, my playing was really sloppy, and I had my guitar pedal set to the wrong effect preset so there wasn't enough distortion. This is the second recording and is a much better performance. The only problem was my wife clicked the stop button on her camera too soon so you don't get to see the big finish. I tried splicing this video in Windows Movie Maker with the ending of the first time I played it but the audio was all out of sync. Oh well. :(

Sheer excellence Brandon! I've always wanted to be good at guitar. That's some fast playing there. Spectacular! :)

I got a few clothes, a couple movies, and a 200 GB external hard drive for my music. We're going to take it back and pay the difference for a 600 GB, though. That'll certainly help things! Had fun. Still having fun here in Texas until we head back to Canada on the 5th.
