Error?
Hi, I'm new here, and I really don't know what to do.
I downloaded the new version of King's Quest 2+ and I was very impressed with it. The next day when I play it, it crashes a millisecond after the title screen (Introduction / Begin Game / Credits / Continue Game) appears with this message:
An error has occured. Please contact the game author for support, as this is likely to be a scripting error and not a bug in AGS.
(ACI version 3.12.1074)
in "room288.asc", line 404
Error: FileWrite: invalid file handle; file previously opened or has been closed
[OK]
I hope that someone will be able to help. Thanks in advance!
EDIT: Oops, sorry. Wrong forum!
OTHER EDIT: I just found the game works fine if I use winsetup and press 'Save and Run', but clicking the application or the menu launcher doesn't work.

Re: 404 error?
LOL! It's line 404, not a 404 error.
404 error is a http error for missing file.
Sounds to me like something got damaged (bad sector) on your HD when you turned it off or something, but the gurus will have to help you.

Re: 404 error?
Which operating system are you using?
Can you look in your game directory and tell me if the file intro.dat is in there?
If not, can you look in your save-game file directory (My Documents/Saved Games/King's Quest II in XP and Saved Games/King's Quest II in Vista) and tell me if the intro.dat file is located there instead? If it's in your Saved Games folder, you'll need to move it into the main game folder.
If the problem persists, then try quitting the game and deleting intro.dat from the game directory. Then try running the game again.

Re: Error?
Hey! No fair changing the topic title after I mentioned it!
Re: Error?
Sorry Gronagor, but that's just how my mind works! I'm using Vista, and I found a solution! The reason it doesn't work is because I'm not running it as an adminstrator, but I ran winsetup as one because it wouldn't let me save otherwise. So I just changed the settings to 'Run as administrator'. Thanks for the help!

Re: Error?
No prob.
Interesting that you were able to run it the previous day, though. Hmmm... perhaps your normal user doesn't have 'overwrite' rights. Weird.
