I just wanted to say thanks one more time.

I finished the game. I like to take it slow to soak it all in.

So I actually just finished it after downloading it and playing it the night it came out.

My character is a beefy thief turned mage.

I didn't get the maximum score, and have only just now upgraded to Version 1.1. I may wait to play it again until a Platinum or final revision is out, because I prefer to keep the characters I've made.

You guys did such an awesome job on this. This remake has been important in my life.

This is because I attribute too much importance to classic computer games lol. But it is really important and I can't thank you guys enough for making this.

Thanks to the Coles for the original game! And everyone who helped this remake happen.

It's a wonderful feeling to get to play a game like this again. :)

You get to keep the characters you have made (in .sav format). You only lose the savegames and any achievement you might have unlocked, which is bad, but on the other hand, they take a lot of space on disk.

True. Anyway I just wanted to say again how awesome this is/ :hat AGDIs pimped a Sierra game. That's so hot,yo!!! :p

Hi,

Thanks Coles for creating such an incredible world. Qfg is my favorite game/series since the first moment I put my eyes on it (QFG1 Remake).

Thanks AGDI for remembering all of us that the magic still goes on. After so many years I am playing again all the games (Thanks DosBox!!!) because of your work of love.

Thank you very much AGD. I have played the QFG series for many years (Since 1990), but never tried to complete the whole series by using the same character (though importing). During the development of QFG2 remake, I replayed QFG1 many times in anticipation of the QFG2 remake. I've have now completed the remake (with full points) and was very impressed. I then imported my Paladin from QFG2 remake and completed QFG3 (full points). This then automatically lead to QFG4 which I completed again with full points. I've started QFG5, but somehow it doesn't feel like QFG. Maybe time will change my opinion. Back to AGD, THANKS AGAIN.

I...<breath>....have been waiting...<breath>....4 years....<breath>.... for this moment. Checking back every couple of months on your site for status updates etc. I cannot believe ...<breath>... the time has finally arrived - it's Friday afternoon and now my weekend looks like being so much more fun.

I echo the sentiments of everyone in here. I was a young kid lost in all the adventure world of Sierra, and the nostalgia this brings back is just priceless.

Thank you so much for all the work on this, if you ever decide to have an Adventure Gamers conference, count me in.

So.

First, to the Coles. Thank you for sharing your stories, vision and terrible puns with the rest of us.

Second, to Sierra/Vivendi/whoever holds the rights at this writing. Thank you for allowing the fans to experience this extremely toothsome serving of reborn nostalgia once again.

Third, to the fine folks at AGD. I first heard about this project about three years ago. I am most humbled by your presentation. Every easter egg, every additional feature, the improved graphics... I don't believe I could put it better than CyricZ: There's loving your work, and then there's you folks. I don't think I could conceive of a better way this could have been done while remaining true to the source material. Thank all of YOU. You deserve treats from L'artisan du Chocolat, really.

i'd just like to send out a HUGE thanks to everyone involved in this... for basically the last 15 years i've wanted to play through all the qfg games with the same character, but always got hitched on trial by fire... maybe i was too young last time i tried it, but i just couldn't ever get into it... with the text input commands, the maze of alleyways... when i saw you guys were working on this a few years back i couldn't tell you how excited i was, maybe as excited as i was today when i checked back and you had completed it a few months ago!

the qfg series will always be one of my favorites of all time... and while i don't doubt for a second how amazing the original trial by fire was at it's time, it's just a little harder to get into than the others. it's so great this was able to happen to bring it all together. so again, endless thanks to the coles, and to all of you at agd :rollin

Thank you to the AGDI team for a thoroughly enjoyable game that I have nearly completed already. I can't believe how true to the original game(s) this is. The silliness, the excitement of finding an unexpected easter egg, noticing how your character does things more competently as he improves his stats, even the tedious work of building those stats (mirroring reality!) - wow, you brought back the excitement of playing it all through the first time.
I did - like many - struggle with the combat at first, but with increasing experience and attributes, it's making more sense. Main issue was using a laptop with no number pad, but being able to reassign the keys, and fiddle with it till it became more natural made all the difference.

Thank you also, of course, to Lori and Corey for the brilliant idea of letting you get to know your character, and for the experience of the QFG series. While I kinda enjoy role-playing usually, the addition of the quest and the traditional adventure game - which I have always loved, since I first played the text based DOS games - now that's brilliant.

The game is AWESOME!!! and just if you wanted to know, it works perfectly with Wine on Linux.
Playing QFG2 VGA again makes me feel wishes to play the whole saga again from 1 to 5. You made an excelent work.
I hope that the Coles come back to the game industry some day with the return of new adventures.

I was going to respond in the Paladin thread but it is better served here. I just want to say this is an impressive job, and well done. The brightly lit streets are a nice touch. At risk of sounding cheesy, I appreciate the magic mini games and the late night conversations with the Kattas. It makes up for what was a relative lack of personalness in Quest for Glory V. Yes, even if I was getting a little old for that sort of thing at the time.

The combat system is OK. Definately a step up from the regular QfG123 combat. At the same time it takes practice to learn how to defeat the various opponents in the desert.

Regarding becoming a Paladin. It would have been nice if stealing was OK, along with the infamous X-Ray glasses. Like if they just did a negative Paladin Points. Or maybe that is just me :lol . But the remake is what it is, and it is a quality product. You guys should make a whole new series next.

If stealing from homes is okay, I wonder what would still be a disqualifier. Personally, I see killing Khaveen while he's unarmed as less morally objectionable than visiting a house and stealing from it. (since during the endgame, the fate of the world is depending on your ability to get to Ad Avis as quickly as possible)

I believe the disqualifier system does a better job of pinpointing a player's general sense of honor than the honor stat does. Tying paladinhood to a high honor stat means only thieves who don't bribe the system by spamming Shema with flowers every night get disqualified, despite the fact their code of ethics isn't any better than the thief who steals from people, but who understands that obsessively throwing flowers around won't compensate the people whose valuables you took.

You either have your cake or eat it, but not both.

A couple years ago I stumbled across these pages (I think it was just after KQ2 with audio was put out) and I was pretty excited over the KQ remakes, but then I saw a bit of info that my all time favourite Sierra game was being remade - I was so excited back then... of all the QFG games it was #2 that was the most unrealised and brilliant. Every several months I'd check back and see the progress... forced to forget about it because I so wanted it to happen - and you know how 99.9% of amateur* developments don't get finished. So I finally remembered to look it up... and WOW!!!

It's classic, its new, I'm re-living my past with the passion heightened... not only is this extremely faithful to one of the best adventure/rpg games ever, its actually better.

I'm playing this game with a whole new light, the combat changes make you live your character class - most of the QFG games you had to be a combat wombat if you were a thief or wizard, but now it all works together to differentiate that. I'm only 3 days in with my wizard and already I'm impatient to fight as a fighter, hit paladin status and sneak into those exclusive thief areas.

I've shelved my QFG set for years and years, and this game is really making me want to pull it all out again - at the same time I can't - because the depth of the class-isation isn't as good in the other games (I always thought QFG2 was the best in giving each class their own unique stuff - now its even better).

So rather than continue to be grateful, I'm going to be pushy and insist that you remake QFG5 so it looks/feels/plays just like 1-4 and with all the content that got trashed (and fix up those bits that just didn't quite work as a QFG game, like too many weapons to buy!) that was going to be in the expansion before it was pulled. It was a good game, but it just wasn't quite right for QFG standards.

THANKYOUTHANKYOUTHANKYOU - and have that copy of QFG5 on my desk by Monday.

* I say amateur to indicate fanbased, non-paid work - for this material is pure gold and not in the slightest big amateurish!

PS - and for all those people who missed out on the original because it was text-based, while I understand - but depending on the character I wanted to grind often I'd actually play the EGA QFG1 because get some of those stats up in the VGA was like pulling teeth - and you can get through the game heaps faster :)

They have already stated that they won't remake any other Sierra game ever. But if they get funding, they'll work in a game in the spirit of King's Quest or Quest for Glory. :D

Seriously, it's good to see someone still cares about these awesome old games in the 2000s. And I am sure you made armies of fans happy. I know I can't wait to play it!

Guess I'll add my two cents here. Thank you for this game. Without this remake, QFG2 was perhaps the suckiest game of the entire series, outclassing even QFG3, Wages of War, in the suck department. Which isn't saying much, since the whole series is awesome and even the suckiest game in it is pretty damn fun. But still, even the simplified streets alone are a good enough reason for praise.

The combat system is more fun than in most other games, too. The remaking of the parser as point and click is a no brainer as an improvement, I never believed in games which were about syntax guessing. And I could say a lot of other things. Sure, there are flaws (why doesn't the hero dispell the Emir at Aziza's place before leaving for Raseir, despite already having the potion and knowledge how to use it?) but on the whole, the positive far outweights the negative.

I've always said that QFG5 surprised me greatly by not disappointing, by being a satisfying and worthy epilogue of this very great series. But it is this remake of QFG2 that truly completes the series for me, at it was the one game I couldn't force myself to play through. Now over the last week or two I've been playing through the entire series from game 1 to 5, a final and complete playthrough after which the purpose of my life will be fulfilled and I will be able to die in peace. ;)

I tried to cover that plot hole by a little remark from Harik when you tell him about the Emir. (after the scene with the saurus at Aziza's place) In the original, the dispel potions already worked in a way that a hair from the victim was required to make them effective and saurii, being scaled lizards and all didn't have hair. Harik remarks that he should be able to find some way to make the dispel potions work without a hair if you give him a week or so.
