This game sounds worse the more I hear about it.

if it takes 30 hours to get awesome then I don't care much. The investment seems like too much

Yea the game doesn't open up till chapter 11 but I still loved every hour before it. Why listen to what other ppl say. If you love FF games then you owe it to yourself to at least rent it and try it for yourself.

if I rented it I'd only end up playing the bad part and Final Fantasy has never even been good in 3d. I was a huge fan when I was younger during the Super Nintendo day but each game since has been more disappointing then the last. Except for 8 which was particularly awful.

I'll be playing it.
I heard terrible things about 8 and 10 and loved them, I heard great things about 9 and hated it and...well I heard bad things about 12 and hated it too but my point is, everyone likes different things. I never judge a game until I've played it myself. It's not high on my priority list right now though so I'll probably be reviving this thread like, 5 months down the road.
And hey, I put almost 200 hours into 12, I think I can sit through 30 hours of 13.

This sounds like the game for you. How can anyone like 8 the story made no sense, even for a Final Fantasy, the junction system was overly confusing and you needed to draw to use it which is by far the worst mechanic in any game I've ever played. Every character was annoying. Seriously every character.

I loved the Junction System, it made everything extremely customizable once you got the hang of it. I had fun with the draw system, it was like collecting items for upgrade except you could do it from any enemy of the right type rather than randomly hunting down one enemy with one item. I liked the characters, even if they got a bit whiny at times and I can't keep track of any JRPG storyline anyway (It's a bit of a problem I have) so I probably forgot about any plot holes or story issues, because I think it all made sense to me in the end.
But I'm a strange animal, to each their own, right?

to me 8 just didn't do anything well. 6 was 100% customizable and did it in a way that I could understand at age 6. You're right though, there are people who will like 8 just like there are people that don't like Avatar.

Avatar wasn't that great. It had the best visual effects ever but other than that it was pretty average.

FFIX and FFVIII seem to be targeted to opposite ends of the spectrum of Final Fantasy fans.

I can agree with that, I think I just found 9 too easy by compared to 7 and 8. Oh yeah and I was repulsed by most of the characters but I don't know why, I guess they just kind of annoyed me. But the Card game in it was the best of any Final Fantasy Card game I've ever played.
I know why people love 6, it was fun and had an epic story I could actually follow. Oh and I liked most of the characters, which does not happen often.

Also, I know my choices in Final Fantasy games can be quite unpopular, I did enjoy Final Fantasy: Makeup Magic (X-2) for the 10 dollar expansion pack it is. It was girlie, but it was pretty fun (to me).

I stand by my assertion that FFX-2 has what is quite possibly the best distillation of the Job System ever seen in a Final Fantasy game. I just can't defend much else about the title.

It was a grown-up Ferngully with *amazing* visual effects.

According to BioWare, FF13 is not an RPG.
