Can something be done with the chest in the lab?

As far as I can tell, it's pretty much just a bit of background "window dressing."
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
I was wondering about this, as well. Considering that Redux has a couple of missing items to find, I was wondering if Manannan was being smart and locked away a couple of items in that chest. I even contemplated casting the sleep spell to put the wizard into a deep sleep and then search his clothes on him to see if he was carrying another key.
Too bad the hero from QFG wasn't around to cast an Open spell.
But as far as I could see, nothing is done with the chest in the lab.

Now I might need to go and check it out again...
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
I see this as a distinct possibility. Put something right in front of the gamer's face and make it extremely difficult to figure out. Now, BT, where have I seen that before?Or it contains the coolest and most secret Easter egg in the game....

I suspect it is an easter egg because this question has been asked many times before in several threads, but was always ignored by AGDI members.

And if not, it would be a good place to put something interesting (and some way to open it) in the next patch of the game . If I recall from the original (never completed it, and that was many, many years ago), finding the key to the magic wand cabinet was very difficult (you had to know to look atop the wardrobe, without visible hints. In this game, that key was easy to find, perhaps there is another one somewhere, more difficult to find.Noa wrote:I suspect it is an easter egg because this question has been asked many times before in several threads, but was always ignored by AGDI members.
But that is just speculation.
One other place which interests me is the wizards' study, since there are two boxes on top of the shelf. If you try to use them, you move next to them, and the description states: "Unfortunaly, you are too short to reach the box". Since the player character moves, somehow it feels like there is something there. But again, not sure.

I will say that adding anything to the game that would require additional text or dialouge is unlikely. This is due to having to get the voice actors to record the additional lines.

Ooh, they're being coy about it! You just KNOW something special is in that box!

This actually makes it seem less likely. That would be the type of jedi mind trick that I would play if I were in their position.Blackthorne519 wrote:Ooh, they're being coy about it! You just KNOW something special is in that box!

Perhaps...or perhaps the devs, knowing you would think that way, decided to put something there after all. However, knowing that we would know that they would know that you would think that way, they could have left it empty after all...chucklas wrote:This actually makes it seem less likely. This is all very confusing. Let's get a computer to do it for us.

*Wishes he had thought of hiding iocane powder in the chest.*
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
You recall correctly. Finding that key was not an overly easy thing to find, and the wording to feel on top of the closet also needed to be written jusssst right... I think if there had been a glint that appeared now and again would have helped. I appreciate that it in this remake that finding that key wasn't as difficult to find.Ayrus wrote: If I recall from the original (never completed it, and that was many, many years ago), finding the key to the magic wand cabinet was very difficult (you had to know to look atop the wardrobe, without visible hints. I also noticed those two boxes in the study. Kept wondering if there was something to do with them or not. Sometimes in adventure games, too much detail can lead the mind to wander in trying to solve a problem.
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
I would guess that unlocking debug mode might prove to be helpful in knowing if the chest can actually be opened from gameplay.
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
Have you noticed how The Devs still completely ignore this question?
However, on the downside, I looked into the game resource files, and read the various strings there. They are clustered according to the rooms that they appear in. I read all the strings from the lab and saw nothing that indicates that the chest could be opened. It's not a complete proof, but I guess it lowers the chances of an easter egg there.

Have you answered the question?navynuke04 wrote:To be fair, I have not completely ignored this...
No?
I rest my case...
Re: Can something be done with the chest in the lab?
not answering and ignoring are quite different things. Either they are laughing at those on a wild goose chase, or they are waiting patiently for the forums to explode with the discovery of an awesome easter egg...or they are nervous that the egg sucks and they don't really want anyone to find it because it wont live up to the hype. Needless to say, I doubt there is any ignoring going on.

I'm telling you, it's the secret entrance to the turtle lair. It's like the old chainsaw gas joke from Zak McKracken!
