3D Silmaria

#1 Post by AGP » Fri Sep 19, 2014 3:33 am

I thought that I would repost this with its own title. I hope that's OK with the moderators. Again, this is neither Unity nor the Unreal Engine, because I take pleasure in reinventing the wheel, so I apologize if this looks less awesome than it ought to. The following is the skeleton of a game that starts after QG5: http://youtu.be/51tx_5Zg4qI

I'm having some models made with which to populate the town (Shameen is just about finished and I'll post some screens of him tomorrow) and I have a little improving to do on some shaders. The particle systems for splash, smoke, and river-lake transition I'm mostly happy with at least. Obviously the character's shadow needs to be improved, but I have read that the best approach is to not use the current shadow map altogether in favor of a shader-based approach. As I don't yet know how to do that, I will work on that last. Also, collision-detection isn't perfect yet.

And as the Katta look in-game:

Wow that's epic! Very impressive, especially without using middleware like Unity / Unreal!

Thanks very much. I can take credit for the programming and very little of the models, but otherwise for the interest in having the models made. I'm not a good modeller, so I usually have someone else do them. Tarna looks better already, and I will make a new video with Silmaria and Tarna in the same game (not to mention Science Island and hopefully better shadows) very soon.

Are you guys still working on your old QFG2.5 game? I still have your really really old demo from years ago and am wondering if there's a new one I can muck around with?

"We" in this case is just me. That was always a one-man show, but the short answer is that although I used most of that code on the new game, too many people questioning the point of that project turned me off. What I'd really love is for the guy on Quest for 3D to either sell me his model or trade with me for mine. Then, I'd continue that project in full 3D. I will publish this new one for sure, one way or another, though. And it will feature both Silmaria and Tarna, at least.

I tried too many times to get in touch with the new Sierra about either acquiring the right to make an official Quest for Glory for myself, or otherwise working on one for them. Never got so much as a "no."

Hi mate,

Am in the process of updating my QFG fan projects page and thought I'd see how yours are going! Any news on your QFG6 or QFG-2.5D projects? or any new pics/vids/demos for us fans to check out? :)
