I just discovered you could do this while playing as a thief.
While clicking hands on lamps (waiting for a bit of time to pass), it gave me messages about choosing a less conspicuous corner.
Then I clicked on one in the corner and it said to get closer.
So I went into stealth mode, walked over, and took it.
Is this new to the VGA version? Is it a failsafe in case you left the Magic Lamp at home?
Am I gonna find a new game over or something? Lol.
EDIT: Oh no wait! I figured it out!
It's a failsafe for the OIL! In case you didn't manage to buy any oil from Shapeir before leaving for Rasier!
That is so clever!

It was also present in the original.
There's a similar failsafe for when you forget to pick up the sapphire pin.

How clever! I probably wouldn't have discovered that on my own, so thanks for sharing. I wish I weren't so impatient when playing these games; they're definitely designed to be tricky/sneaky like that with things you can do, but I often miss many of it because I'm too impatient to look and click everywhere.

My biggest problem with missing things is that I'm a perfectionist and I like to get 500 out of 500 points - which also means, effectively, I don't often find the alternative puzzle solutions and failsafes.
The only reason I found this out is because it's a fail safe that you can get even if you have oil - unlike the rusty nail which you need to be missing the sapphire pin to find.
