music, windows 10

#1 Post by cliffton » Thu May 18, 2017 2:43 pm

Anyone able to get music working on Windows 10?

on launching the game I get a dialog
"Unable to initialize your audio hardware.
[Problem: failed to init MIDI music driver]"

Then in game:
"Please run the setup program, and check the 'Use digital music pack' option"
Game then exits.

Setting MIDI Music to "disable music" allows the game to launch and should work fine, but it disables the digital music too. Others have noted this as a bug:

http://www.adventuregamestudio.co.uk/fo ... ic=52621.0
As this game doesn't even use MIDI music, it does seem like a bug that the digital music is silenced by disabling MIDI.

If I copy the folder over to a Windows XP box (kept offline and around for testing), I get music (ie the installed files appear to be intact)

So, anyone on Win 10 with music working? Any chance of a patch to allow digital music to play with disabled MIDI?

I have Windows 10, and the game works for me, with music. However, I don't know why it would work for me and not for you.
