Only one complaint

#1 Post by Crowley9 » Thu Jan 31, 2002 12:42 am

A great remake of a great game, but I have one complaint: I was unable to get the sling from the hole in the tree and got a message saying something like: "There's nothing there that you need now." Apparently this was because I had already gotten the giant's treasure. I consider this to be both misleading and illogical. Unless you read the walkthrough, you easily get the idea that there are no points to be gained there, and as far as the logic goes, how does Graham know that A) there is a sling in the tree and B) the only use for the sling is to kill the giant?

i distinctly remember playing the game, getting the chest, and then going and also getting the slingshot, and getting the extra points for doing so. maybe you got the wrong tree? i dunno. i was able to do this.

About the logic part....

First of all, I believe you can still get the slingshot after getting the chest.

Second of all, I guess you can never tell that the only use for the slingshot was taking down the giant, but using a rock and a sling to get rid of a giant/big guy isn't that illogical, since KQ borrowed heavily from fairy tales/ancient stories and the one about David and Goliath immediately comes to mind here.

Also, lots of objects in KQ1 and 2 were hidden that way. Hiding something in a hole in a tree is likely the most popular way of hiding something in the early KQ-games.
(pouch, mallet, slingshot and one of the saphire jewels to name a few)

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Sorry

Hm, it seems I've made a mistake somewhere. I went to the place where the walkthrough says the sling is. A wolf appears there sometimes. Am I in the wrong place?

a wolf? hm, methinks you got the wrong place! it's the same as the original game... it's in the giant's land up in the clouds, and it's in the lowest, furthest right hand corner of all those screens, right near to the cave entrance. there's a tree there and a hole in the bottom of the tree. it's very close to the edge of the clouds where you can't see the ground, so don't fall off!

So that's what's wrong! I followed the directions on the ground!
