Again, off-topic, but I uploaded Mafia, Hic Bill 1 and Hic Bill 2. It's all available at www.nancycarterdesign.com/spongefactory/dl/Group.zip. This isn't advertising, it's just for vildern, and all else who are interested to play some of our old games that we don't care about anymore. Have fun!

BTW-- Use the .bat files... QB doesn't compile well either :P

What was the title for King's Quest I?

I don't believe that the original release had a title other than King's Quest. IIRC, the SCI0 it was the rerelease that was given the title "Quest for the Crown" which has also been reused by Tierra, I think.

I think it might have been KQ parody. SQ2 was the secret project that they decided to do to make up for that. It got cancelled because someone else is working on it. Doesn't your question remind you of the old classic question what came first the chicken or the egg?

SQ2VGA was put off in june 2002, Royal Quest was cancelled in october 2001.

KQ1 - Quest for the Crown
KQ2 - Romancing the Throne/Romancing the Stones
KQ3 - To Heir is Human
KQ4 - The Perils of Rosella
KQ5 - Absence makes the Heart go Yonder
KQ6 - Heir Today Gone Tomorrow
KQ7 - The Princeless Bride
KQ8 - Mask of Eternity
and soon to be...KQ9 - Every Cloak has it's Silver Lining

Actually, the movie is called "The Princess Bride" which is a great movie, BTW. And there is an old movie called "The Perils of Pauline." Perhaps this is what KQ4's title is a reference to?

This probably isn't the place to ask, but what about "Every Cloak Has a Silver Lining?" Is this based off of any expressions?

Yes, it is. It's based off of "Every cloud has a silver lining", meaning that even though things seem bad (the cloud), there is always a positive side to it (the silver lining). Of course, the Cloak part comes from (at least I would imagine) the whole Black Cloak society theme that ran through the KQ series (Hagatha, Manannan, Mordack, Alhazred).

Well, I, for one, am very excited to see this game. It seems very well thought out. I've been following the project since... jeez... before I found out about Tierra. Of course, I did just register for the forums though. I had a couple questions for them.

Basically, if they were going to use the pre rendered backgrounds from their old website. They used to have another website, and the graphics were, well, bad. I was very relieved to hear that they were not using bryce to make some quick backgrounds, but there is a lot more depth added now.

I think kq3 should be next, I think you should re do the whole kq series, except for 6 and 7. MOE needs to be redone to make it more of an adventure game.

Why should they remake KQ5 when it has already been remade? There's nothing wrong with MOE, IMO. Some people like the 3-d style and others don't. MOE might not be considered to be a King's quest game since the main character is a tanner instead of a member of the royal family and there is also a lot of killing which makes it a little like an RPG instead of an adventure game. I don't know about you but I kind of like the 3d style because it's nice to try out new things. I think that Roberta Williams wanted to try to make a 3d game and that's what she did. Quest for Glory V is also done in 3d. Should that be remade as well? It would take a long time to remake those games and I think Tierra would want to concentrate on remaking games that aren't already in VGA style like kq3 and qfg2.

The reasons most people would want it remade is becuase of dead ends, bugs, and other problems with the game.

KQ3 is the best choice

You started a story arc which involves the order of the Black Cloak. The first time you actually hear of the Black Cloak in the original series is KQ3. Manannan was originally the most powerful of the wizards, so it would be cool to see his master. Also, it was he who summoned the Dragon. It would be wise to remedy the inconsistency in the cloud test area.

Gwydion, AKA Alexander, is also the coolest main character, as he is the only one who can use magic w/o using a stupid wand or a stupid crystal.
