book puzzle fairytales

I speek danish so therefore I am in deep trouble with the fairytales. I think I found all but 1. I don't now any fairytales where there is a girl with a name ending like eep. and I can't figure out what you mean. So please give me the title or the author.

The book-shelf puzzle is KQ2's unfair puzzle. It took me about 45 minutes to find bo....eep...(flock ...)...

Yeah, if you don't know your fairy tales or you're not a native English speaker I could definitely see where this puzzle could be a stinker. I had a problem with the "Star-Crossed lovers" the first time I played until it dawned on me the first row of books weren't fairy tales. A definite head-scratcher, but still a good puzzle IMO. ~Wolfgang

You guys are still lucky. When I first played the puzzle you had to CLICK the eye cursor on each book in order to see the title. In Beta 2 it was improved by simply displaying the title when the cursor was on the book. I agree it was a head-scratcher. I thought the star-crossed lovers were Venus and Adonis at first. (besides mythological figures they were astral bodies as well, hence star-crossed, groar, swallow, burp, restore...I guess not) Still, being non-English myself, this one was most satisfying for me after getting it on the second try. <img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Yeah, the first time I played the game in the beta version, it took me two hours to complete the puzzle because I had no idea where the books on the shelf were. We couldn't just hover the mouse over the book we wanted to look at -- we had to click on that book. And some of the books on the self were so thin, it was very easy to accidentally miss clicking on them and passing by the title you needed to select. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">

I liked that puzzle. When I looked at the clues, I knew the answers and then I had to find the books. I was amazed at how many books were in that shelf. Some of the books I haven't read like most of those books from Shakespeare, the Queen Bee or the White Snake.

My first language isn't English either, and I made the same mistake as Erpy with the "star-crossed lovers", also because of the star referance. What is "star-crossed" anyway? it wasn't in my dictionary.

Since english is my main tounge, it may be hard to explain in a way a non english person will understand but here goes. Star-crossed = ill fated, Not meant to be according to the fates. Wrong place wrong time situation.

Like I said in a another thread. This puzzle would be easier if there had be some small chapter in each books from the story . It would have helped me a lot because most of those book is something I don´t recognize ether or I haven´t read any of those. But if this is to hard to put a small text inside the books from each fairy tells why not then put a web site link in every books so we could find it and read the story like you did for me when I asked about the Rumplestiltskin. This is a game that you picked from Internet right?

I think it would be a waste spending half a year on what you're suggesting. Besides, lots of the titles on the shelf aren't really stories, but rhymes. But the challenge of the puzzle will be gone if you can simply look up the answers. <img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashu ...

Nevertheless, that book puzzle thingy isnt remotely fair. It is just clicking until you hit the correct book if you dont know the story. That takes a lot of time. It is a good idea to just keep their around 1/3 of the books. Yehh, that would be better. Or better: try to make it more sophisticated. Instead of 200 books and 5 books to find, just 3 books to find and have about 30 books that have a short description of it, like Fribbi suggested. It would take like forever to add descriptions if you keep those 200 books, but if you leave just 30 descriptions, and make the riddle abit more sophisticated instead of "well, if you dont know the story, just click as much as you like", then it wont take forever.

If you haven't read any of those stories or rhymes, then you could just read them on the Internet. All of those stories and rhymes are there you know.

I agree that this was hard and I speak English, I figured it out pretty easily though, but it makes a good point for future developement of other games by anybody. Don't put in puzzles that only certain groups of certain cultures will understand, maybe more beta testing will rid these problems. That is probably the only puzzle that neglected people, it was more of a cultural puzzle than an intelligence one. I guessed the star-crossed lovers first go, but from reading this thread, my reason for picking it was not the real reason I should have picked it. anyone having trouble with the puzzle, try putting the hints you get from the game about the nursery rhymes into the google search engine and this should help you figure out the puzzle. A good puzzle shouldn't be about what you know, but about how you think. In this respect, the book puzzle was unfortunately weak. It's actualy pretty ironic, though, that a company called "Tierra," with a nice international logo animation to express its worldwide nature, should create such a culture-specific puzzle! Ah, well.

Philthethirll, this isnt such a good idea. Games that you want to go check on the internet things (those stories), or games that you want you to gain knowledge from sources that are outside of the game are totally not Sierra-like. So, if you want to keep the KQ spirit (KQ4-KQ7 spirit) it is a bad solution for a hard puzzle.

I agree with you, Vildern. However, there is no harm in reading the actual stories themselves. I know this is like looking at a webpage with hints and that this does not keep the king's quest spirit, but these are good stories and there is nothing wrong with reading them. I scanned through that bookshelf and wrote down the titles of the stories that I haven't read before and I looked them up on the Internet and I read them all. These are good stories, Vildern, and if none of you have read them before I would encourage you to do so.
