I cant find the possum!

#1 Post by wickednikki » Tue Jan 28, 2003 5:18 am

I've done everything up to the point of using my magic carpet to fly away for the next gem, but i cant seem to find the possum so i can get the flower! does it just appear randomly or is it in a specific spot?

Possum is actually a girl. She will appear one screen south of Hagatha's cave.

Don't go out the same way you did the last time
You'll break when you fall
Don't make the same mistakes you did all over
You've got to believe in yourself this time

I couldn't figure out a way to just contact a moderator directly (the appropriate info doesn't seem to be in the ezboard profiles), so I guess I'll post it here - I got a random email from this new user "wickednikki", that was addressed to tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com or something like that, and the text of the mail was "confirm 37942" or whatever the code number was. Any idea what's up with that? (sadly I've deleted the mail, I thought it was some kind of odd spam at first, and had no idea until I saw the username here.)

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... Hmmm...strange. It's nothing I know anything about. So...if it was addressed to tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com how did you get it? I'll have to check with Erpy and adeyke to see if they know anything about this.

Thanks for the info, Kijyata. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

~Wolfgang

Well, my guess is that it's a mailing list, thus distributes to a number of people, although how I got it at the address I did is beyond me, since it's not the one associated with the username kijyata, and I don't recall typing it in anywhere. That's why I thought at first that it must have been worm/spam sort of stuff, like the klez virus where you get mail with forged "from" addresses, based on what was in the address book of the infected computer. I'm still pretty baffled by this one though.

Here's another - a reply of some sort, apparently. I think I must have used eristic@eristic.net to subscribe to a Tierra updates list or something, so that's why that address as opposed to any other, but getting these at all is still mysterious.

Message text:

Confirmed
-----Original Message-----
From: tierra-admin@lists.tierraentertainment.com [mailto:tierra-admin@lists.tierraentertainment.com]On Behalf Of Wicked Nikki
Sent: 28 January 2003 00:47
To: tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com
Subject: (no subject)

confirm 373922

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
STOP MORE SPAM with the new MSN 8 and get 2 months FREE*

Headers:

Return-Path: <tierra-admin@lists.tierraentertainment.com>
Received: from braxton.siteprotect.com (braxton.siteprotect.com [64.26.0.88])
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp by dragonwind.net (8.9.3/8.9.3) with ESMTP id NAA02690
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp for <eristic@eristic.net>; Tue, 28 Jan 2003 13:26:50 -0600
Received: from braxton.siteprotect.com (localhost [127.0.0.1])
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp by braxton.siteprotect.com (Postfix) with ESMTP
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp id 61BF6211A6; Tue, 28 Jan 2003 13:26:47 -0600 (CST)
Delivered-To: tierra@braxton.siteprotect.com
Received: from mta4-svc.business.ntl.com (mta4-svc.business.ntl.com [62.253.164.44])
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp by braxton.siteprotect.com (Postfix) with ESMTP id 31A622118D
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp for <tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com>; Tue, 28 Jan 2003 13:20:41 -0600 (CST)
Received: from oemcomputer ([213.105.44.169]) by mta4-svc.business.ntl.com
(InterMail vM.4.01.03.27 201-229-121-127-20010626) with SMTP
id <20030128192038.HBIK29609.mta4-svc.business.ntl.com@oemcomputer>;
Tue, 28 Jan 2003 19:20:38 +0000
From: "Jim O'Keeffe" <jim.okeeffe@virgin.net>
To: "Wicked Nikki" <wickednikki@hotmail.com>,
<tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com>
Subject: RE: (no subject)
Message-ID: <DEEALPMGHOINHNJBPKIOAEECCAAA.jim.okeeffe@virgin.net>
MIME-Version: 1.0
Content-Type: multipart/alternative;
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp boundary="----=_NextPart_000_0002_01C2C703.10F339C0"
X-Priority: 3 (Normal)
X-MSMail-Priority: Normal
X-Mailer: Microsoft Outlook IMO, Build 9.0.2416 (9.0.2910.0)
Importance: Normal
In-Reply-To: <F1767j1HaKtKufVma0o00000117@hotmail.com>
X-MimeOLE: Produced By Microsoft MimeOLE V6.00.2600.0000
Sender: tierra-admin@lists.tierraentertainment.com
Errors-To: tierra-admin@lists.tierraentertainment.com
X-BeenThere: tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com
X-Mailman-Version: 2.0.6
Precedence: bulk
List-Help: <mailto:tierra-request@lists.tierraentertainment.com?subject=help>
List-Post: <mailto:tierra@lists.tierraentertainment.com>
List-Subscribe: <http://lists.tierraentertainment.com/ma ... ,
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp <mailto:tierra-request@lists.tierraentertainment.com?subject=subscribe>
List-Id: Tierra Newsletter Mailing List <tierra.lists.tierraentertainment.com>
List-Unsubscribe: <http://lists.tierraentertainment.com/ma ... ,
&nbsp &nbsp &nbsp &nbsp <mailto:tierra-request@lists.tierraentertainment.com?subject=unsubscribe>
List-Archive: <http://lists.tierraentertainment.com/ma ... />
Date: Tue, 28 Jan 2003 19:25:50 -0000
Status:

That means someone has attempted to signed you up for the newsletter mailing list. However, your email address will not be added unless you send a confimation email back containing the confirm code that was emailed to you.

Why are we getting other people's confirmation stuff though? These must be being sent out to the list for some reason (which Phillip and I must already be on - as I said I don't specifically remember signing up, but it seems plausible that I did) otherwise we wouldn't be getting identical messages ostensibly "from" wickednikki and Jim O'Keeffe. um, Hail Eris?

BTW is there a way to get in contact with a mod/admin directly, in case it's ever needed (such as situations like this), aside from posting a thread? (sorry to have hijacked this one!)

I don't know anything about the e-mail thing.

If you want to contact moderators, both Erpy and I have our e-mail addresses public in the profiles, so you can just e-mail one of us. I'm going to nuke this mailing list. It was hidden from public view but I guess some scum sucking, bottom dwelling spammers will go to any length to dig it up and market their crap to people. Fortunatley, nobody's email addresses are publicly visible on the list, so nuking the entire thing should solve the problem.

Silly me for assuming that since Wolfgang hadn't had an email displayed, that adeyke and Erpy wouldn't either. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

I was wondering what happened because I got an email saying that they had gotten my unsubscription request. I knew nothing about this so I emailed them back and asked to be resubscribed....I guess we can't be though. Oh well. I just unsubscribed everyone's email addresses from the mailing list and copied and pasted them all to a text file on my computer which we'll use to send out newsletters from now on. So, if you recieved an email telling you that you were unsubscribed from the mailing list, it just means that your email address was removed, so that if any spam is sent to the list address then it will not be forwarded to your email account.

This seems like the safest way to do things. Having the addresses stored on a mailing list over the internet where anyone might gain access to them was a bit risky.
