I imagined the librarien's voice to be lower and a softer yet still stern. Took me by surprise when she started yelling out "No!" lol

"Requires MCGA, CGA, VGA, PGA, or TA-RA-RA-BOOMGA!!" -Gary Owens, SQ4

I haven't finished the game with the speech pack yet, but so far, I'm extremely impressed. The only problems I had were Connor, the Sharkee King, and The Father. Don't get me wrong, the voice acting itself was great, I just didn't really think they fit the characters. The Sharkee king could've been a bit more menacing, I'd imagined the Father as having a colder voice, and probably an accent. My only problem with Connor is that it doesn't sound much like the Connor from MoE. Oh, well, they're all good so far. I must say, Maghrabi and Kurt did great jobs, the game is really enhanced with the pack. Great job, everyone. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
~El Ravager~

By the time MOE came out, Sierra moved to highly expensive voice actors. I don't think the one who did Connor in MOE would have wanted to work for free.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashm ...

Oh, I'm perfectly aware of that. It just would've been nice if it'd sounded similiar to his voice in MoE. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">
~El Ravager~

sigh... what would be nice is if everyone would stop complaining about these things.

It serves no purpose besides making us think twice about doing any more voice packs in the future. It took a lot of time to create a voice pack because you guys asked for it, and it's available for free. When people keep bringing up these things it starts getting demotivating. Everyone has different interpretations of how characters should sound, so if certain voices don't appeal to you personally try to remember that the voice pack sounds how we wanted it to sound, not how we thought every individual other person on the earth thought it should sound.

If you still don't care for particular voices, then please keep it to yourself. There's no benefit in letting us know. Thanks.

LOVED the speech pack!!!

#32 Post by djsouza » Thu Apr 10, 2003 10:19 am

Hi there!

Recently, I have downloaded the speech pack for KQII and, after replaying the game all the way, I gotta say...

I just LOOOVED it! It´s incredible!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

It seems a lot of people have not liked some parts of the voice acting in the game.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\">
For my taste, the speech pack came out just perfect. I did not dislike any of the characters voices. Why? Because I did not cared how they sounded in my mind before playing. Since all the actors did their job quite professionally, the end results are top notch (especially considering that this is a freeware game).

KQII was, to me, one of the BEST adventure games I have ever played (really!). With the additional speech, it became even better. You guys at Tierra are truly professional game makers.<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Congratulations to Tierra and to all the voice actors responsible for making KQII an unforgettable experience!

Keep the good work!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/roll.gif ALT=":rollin">

P.S.: The boatman was just CREEEPY!<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ns/eek.gif ALT=":eek"> Ahhh!

Diego J. Ah, don't take it personal. I guess your post was just misinterpreted. I don't see any downplaying remarks in there either.

The problem with voicepacks is that voices are subject to personal preference so much. Most people will have a few voices they find less preferable, although I must say that replaying the game once or twice to get accustomed to the voices helps a lot. (having said that, I guess your statement of not having beaten the game yet didn't have the best timing in the world. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b"> )

Trust me, even the voices you mentioned will grow on you sooner or later. Just give it some time. BTW, I'm interested in which voices you DID see as ones jumping out of the common crowd.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ...

Yeah, I felt the same way about every talkie version of Sierra's games. You're right, they do grow on you. I can't say I disliked any of the voices, they were all very well done, amazing considering they were all done by amateures, the voice pack definitely enhances the game. I loved the way Maghrabi did Angelina, it seemed just perfect for the character.

The only problem (other than personal preference on some of the voices) I could really spot was the slight feedback on a couple of the voices, and even that was extremely minor. I'm a bit surprised at how clear they all were, I don't tihnk I could acheive that quality on my own microphone. Great job, Tierra. Anyway, I'm kinda repeating myself here, so I'll shut up now. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":b">

~El Ravager~

El Ravager, I wasn't referring to you specifically - just a lot of comments that have been made in general recently.

It's not the fact that people find certain voices suitable or not, nor whether they find them to be good or poorly acted. It's just the fact that unlike, say, bugs in a game which can be fixed or changed, the voice pack is something which is finalized and is always going to be subjective to individual taste. For us personally, it serves no real purpose to state which particular voices were different than people thought they'd be - since everyone is going to have different expectations... it's a given.

All of the actors involved in the voice pack were reliable and got their lines sent to us really fast. In our opinion, we couldn't have imagined more professional people from outside the team to have performed these voices and we were really pleased with the results. None of the voice actors were paid for this and the entire thing was done on a $0 budget. If people had spent big bucks on this then I could possibly see this as being valid argument (though it still doesn't seem to bother some commercial game companies), but since it's free, I suggest just not going into it expecting too much. That way if you like it, you'll be pleasently surprised -- and if not, then, at least, you won't have raised your hopes.

By the way Ravager, thanks for your earlier positive comments too. I should have mentioned that those were appreciated<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"> And thanks djsouza, too!

The speech pack was well well well done. I have no complants what so ever. I have a question and it's not a complant. But... Why is King Grahams voice has an echo in both KQ1VGA and KQ2VGA+. I have no problem with the echo it dosn't take way from the voice pack. It was great and it was very unexpected. I love it to death. I just had that one question. Thank you and don't take it as a complant. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /happy.gif ALT=":D">

It's because they were recorded in different rooms, meaning different reverbs.

----------
Sponge Factory

The AGDs met when they were still working on the Hero6-project.
