#1 Post by Vel » Wed Apr 09, 2003 8:38 pm

Why dont you add lip-sync for the next version of KQ2VGA?

There isn't going to be a next version of KQ2VGA. This one is the final one. After working on it for over a year, working on it is starting to get repetitive.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

AGS doesn't currently support lip-sync with phenomes. And even if it did, it would still be a whole lot of extra effort to pre-sync every line of dialog in the game.

Lip-syncing isn't that neccessary...Most of the time, you're usually reading the text with the voice anyway...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

not so sure

#6 Post by Vel » Thu Apr 10, 2003 9:46 pm

I am not so sure. Infact, when there is voice available, I mostly look at the close-up picture, expecting to see synchronization at least to some extent.

Alright...that would be true...but be reasonable...after all this hard working team produces games free to revive the adventure game series...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Plus, as AGD2 said, it's not even possible anyway.

"Requires MCGA, CGA, VGA, PGA, or TA-RA-RA-BOOMGA!!" -Gary Owens, SQ4

Have you played KQ1VGA with voices? I have to say that KQ2 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay better. The mouths actually look like they "could" have said it in KQ2. Plus, I like how the head moves as they talk. It seems very natural, but no one else agrees <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

----------
Sponge Factory

I agree! But it's better if the speed is higher. Otherwise, that movemtn is too slow, and it looks really odd! If it's going pretty fast, then it seems more natural to me.

I liked the KQ2 dialouge pics better than KQ1VGA's. And I agree that its better to have the speed up. But if its too high then it looks like they have had too much coffee. But the dialouge pics are much better none the less.
The Knight

The only amibient animation that looked too fast for me was the bobbing mer-people in Neptune's throne room. I know they were floating in the water, but the up and down motion just seemed a bit too fast is all.

"May the way of the hero
lead to the Triforce."
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... athoth8 at: 4/22/03 10:07:09 pm

Yeah I guess it is a little too fast. But not that much of a problem. All in all, the game is great. Sure it has its imperfections. But all games do.
The Knight

What the heck kind of topic is that, The Knight?

I wasn't trying to criticize. OK, I guess I was. I wasn't trying to complain. I was just pointing it out. It seemed to go somewhat in line with the current topic. I love the game. I've played it several times. I'm sure I will play it again at some point. It's just pointless nitpicking. That's all. Don't be so overprotective.

"May the way of the hero
lead to the Triforce."

Anathoth8, I don't think he was being Over-protective...more like trying to prevent trouble from starting...

No, sorry. I was just joking more than anything else. It just seems like other people nitpick a lot, and whenever I do just a little, someone steps up and says, "Hey! Stop that! It's a great game! You have no right to criticize it!" Just a little bit of sour grapes, I guess.

All right, everyone back to your regularly scheduled programs now.

"May the way of the hero
lead to the Triforce."

I may be wrong, but I think the AGS to-do list included automatic lip syncing.
Pidgeot
-----
Every error you find is the last one.

Well, even if it did support it, you won't be see it being implemented in the next version of KQ2VGA (if there ever will be one). As mentioned by Erpy, after working on it for over a year, it is getting a bit tiresome...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)">

Yeah, what optic said. Besides that, they would still have to go back and create drawings of all the characters with their mouths in appropiate positions for every phenome, and that would take a loooooooooooooooooooooooooong time. (Pardon my excessive use of o's. I think I have been using Goooooooooooogle toooooooooooooo much <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /laugh.gif ALT=":lol"> )

"May the way of the hero
lead to the Triforce."

ACtually the newest version of AGS(which version 2 of KQ2:RTs is in.), does have lip-sync support. I have it so I would know. It has been implemented already.
The Knight
