Saving my game

I was following the old sierra addage of Save Often and Save Well, when I relaised (upon my second save) that the names of my save games were going all wonky. Now I'm just finished the first part of the game, and the darned thing won't let me save, because it can't replace save games, because that crashes. And I can't delete the save games, 'cos I don't know which ones I need! And i'd appreciate my save games not having names like #^%!*()&Aa873&)98@&)&($)(!*9787@(7... etc. I'm using Windows XP, could this be the source of this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated! <p></p><i></i>
