KQ2 sets my midi output to near mute

#1 Post by will729 » Thu Dec 12, 2002 9:13 am

in the volume play control panel i set the midi setting to full, then i start KQ 2 can't hear anything, shut it down and look at the volume panel again and the midi output is set as low as it goes, i dunno if this has been said before but i went back a few pages and didn't see it and the solution in the FAQ thread doesn't work (unless i'm reading it wrong somehow)

That happened to me once too. I just put the sound back up and it worked fine the next time.

Just download the digital music pack, it's much better.

No offense, but you really can't use "Download the digital music pack" as the solution to everything. Some people can't download it, because of slow connections or download limits, that is why you made it optional I believe. That solution doesn't really fix any problems.

i've d/led a few of the single tracks and they are better but a 60MB d/l would take about 8 hours on my connection and that would be if i didn't d/l anything else in that time, even webpages and seeing as i have only 1 phone line that would be 8 hours of tieing up the phone line for one file

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... will729 at: 12/12/02 4:43:23 am

The game wasn't going to originally include MIDI, but we ended up included it as a precautionary measure. There are known bugs with the Allegro MIDI player (the MIDI player that AGS uses), so if MIDI doesn't work on certain systems then unfortunatley, these issues can't be fixed, so my advice is to download the digital music instead and save yourself the trouble of worrying about MIDI problems.

If you use GetRight to download it over the course of a few days, then it shouldn't be a problem.

There's one thing you can try with MIDI, however:
1/ Start the game
2/ ALT+TAB out of the game, then turn the MIDI up manually in Windows.
3/ Go back into the game again and it should now be at a decent volume level. A little crude, but it should work.

I still recommend the digital music pack though <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

There is an issue with KQ2 altering the global sound volume, which it really shouldn't. Apparently the next version of Allegro (AGS's sound system) will fix this issue, so hopefully in a future version of the game this can be fixed.
