King's Quest 1 bug

#1 Post by Ducklord » Sat Dec 20, 2003 10:06 pm

<br> Hi,<br><br>I have KQ1 v.3.0. If I enter the screen where you can find the slingshot ( in Cloudland ) from the west while I wear the fairy Godmother's protective spell, the game crashes. It is not very important, I just thought you might want to know.<!--EZCODE EMOTICON START :) --><img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)"><!--EZCODE EMOTICON END--> <p></p><i></i>

Oh, and I'm using 320x200 resolution, of course. <p></p><i></i>

Is there an error message when it crashes? If so, could you provide it here?<br> <p></p><i></i>

That bug is due to the "spell"-character being placed in the wrong room (i.e: != current room) upon entering. I don't know if it was AGD2 or me who made the mistake, but it's definitely a scripting bug.<br><br><!--EZCODE IMAGE START--><img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashs ... <!--EZCODE IMAGE END--> <p></p><i></i>

Hmm.. now that you say that, I think the bug I was about to post about likely has the same source. When landing on the river island after being dropped by the condor, the "spell character" appeared in the upper left of the screen, empty, just hovering in the air (not animated; I don't know if this is normally animated as I have never had the fairy's spell cast on Graham).

(red circle is added for emphasis)

This didn't affect any game functions, it was just odd to see. Exiting and re-entering the screen did not make it go away, but when I walked into the hole and Graham changed sprites to the "falling" one, it did.

Interesting... I don't think I've seen that one before.
