Hi, I'm Rodrigo Steinmann and I was one of the guys that translate KQ1 to Spanish. I want to tell you that I was planing to make KQ4 VGA and I actually wrote to Tierra to see if they were planning to do it. They say that they are not gonna do it right now. Anyway, finally I can't make the remake, becouse I'm busy with others translations, and the remake of Maniac Mansion.

Bye!

Yea, I'm making the remake of Maniac Mansion with my friend (who also translated KQ1VGA) Leandro Tami. The web site is http://www.geocities.com/mmremake2003 but it is only in Spanish, anytime soon I will translate it to English. By the way, If you don't know Spanish, I can tell you that 'Dibujos' mean 'Draws' and te main news in the web site, is that we are trying to make MM remake completely on 3D :D .

I don't think it's a good idea to make a 3D-version of it. That will kill the nostalgic flair. Better try to make a 1:1 version with 256-colour backgrounds, like the ones LucasArts made. Some examples of what I mean:

Zak McKracken and the Alien Mindbenders

Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade

Loom

LucasArts remaked all EGA-versions of their games - excepts one: Maniac Mansion! So this is your chance!

Btw.: The one below I did by my own. I used Deluxe Paint II for it. That's the same graphic program, LucasArts used for their games! It's a very small program and you should find it with the help of Google.

yes, I know what you mean. But we are gonna try it anyway, when I have anything done, I will post it in the site, but only if still have that 'nostalgic thing'. If that dosn't work, we will make it in 256 or 16 bytes. Thanks for the program! I will download it right now.

Lucasfan, since your art is brilliant, you should do MM yourself. You've already acomplised Zak McKraken (btw, LF's version is a sequal, Lucasarts remade Zak McKraken) although it may be hard to script since you change characters and have to choose which characters go into the mansion, maybe you should just choose 3 default characters; Dave, Bernard and Razor but it's your choice.

256 3D Remake

The LucasFan, part of doing a remake is about changing the technologies used to create the game as well as the graphics. it is fairly easy to make some minor changes to a software program so it can be run on Win XP, but 256 colors at least are required. It should look pretty. Pictures set 1 looks like the old graphics. We've seen them before. Picture set 2 are asounding and artistly mesmerizing! I feel picture set 2 in 256 in 3D make a much better game. I understand some wish to preserve the classics. Sierra sells the King's Quest Collection to the nostalgic. I think we need to have King Quest present a challange to fans to remake the game for genneration to come. This version would be the CD version. 10 yrs. from now I cann envision a DVD version. We need to beat those vapid console games.

A Matter of Time

Another question. KQ3 and KQ4 had a clock. Will the rerelease have timed sequences as well. Will there be an option, or a *cheat* to disable the clock, so the gamer may play at their own pace? No other kQ games rush the gamer like KQ4 and KQ3.

There are timed sequences in lots of KQ-games, they just don't run on a general clock. (I personally think the clock plays a fairly important part in KQ3)

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashu ...

I don't recall the clock in KQ4, so it must not have been important. I doubt it would be included in a remake.

---------

"Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?"
"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"
----------
Sponge Factory

The night-part in KQ4 could be triggered by two events. Either by getting to the part where it NEEDS to be night (haunted house sequence) or when a certain amount of hours (?) pass. The entire game is kinda like a real day, although I never ran into the time limit myself.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nasht ...

It was a set point when it turned to night. When rosella got the scarab from the witches, it triggered the night scene. Although it would be neat to have a multiple night version of the game, one must bear in mind that you must get the talisman in 24 hours, thus making it very easy to cause dead-ends if the night sequence was based on real time. In fact, if someone got a telephone call and had to leave for an hour or so, and didn't know about this, it could potentially make the game very hard.

---------

"Why do you wear that stupid bunny suit?"
"Why are you wearing that stupid man suit?"
----------
Sponge Factory

I remember somewhere was written how many minutes is one hour.... but I don't remember.

Lucas Fan, I wrote that it is good to have someone from my country, or to have a man with knowledge of russian language.
I'm not actually from Russia, I'm from Moldova, but 75% of people speek here mostly on Russian.

It's both real-time (with a certain ratio) and event-based. It is possible to wait until nightfall without getting the scarab. This takes a very long time, though, so it's unlikely that it'll happen when playing normally. I think it's okay that way. You also have limited time in KQ2VGA to get the tiara, but I've never actually run into the limit. It's worth it to pause the game if you're going to be away for a long time, but you're not in much of a hurry while actually playing.

Funny... Whenever I played KQ4 it never seemed to turn to night time until I was on my way back through the mountain with the fruit. I'd get the fruit, cross the board from the island where the snake and fruit were located onto the first "stepping stone" and proceeded to jump across until it came time for the screen to change. Before the screen would change however the game showed the sunset Cut Scene. I always went to get the scarab AFTER the game switched to night time. Then again maybe I just completed everything I needed to just before the allotted time expired?

EDIT:Hmmm... you know? I don't remember when I got the scarab... however if I did get it during the day I clearly remember the game changing from day to night after getting the fruit...

BTW: Shouldn't this topic be in the "Off Topic" forum?

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... ntorian at: 9/4/03 2:50 am

If you already got the fruit, the day turns to night as soon as you leave the screen in front of the skull cave with the scarab.

This topic's too old to move.
