A Fun Challenge

#1 Post by Quest For Glory Fan » Mon Jun 20, 2005 2:56 am

Ok we all know Quest For Glory 1 has 500 points and if you didn't know that you should just shoot yourself in left testicle right now and start playing the game again. Anyways I was thinking about how the points don't matter at all and they are only there so nerds in their basements can get them all and think they've done something with their lives.

Anyways to the chase, boys and girls and Blackthornes alike I have a challenge for you. I'm Curious as to who can beat QFG1 in one sitting with the FEWEST amount of points. once I get around to beating this game I'll try it to. There are only a couple rules. No hacking (The Hero taught me the infinite skills hack earlier today) or modding the game in anyway. other than that have fun.

OH I almost forgot. If you don'y feel like attempting this particular challenge here are a few other tasks to complete while you wait for QFG2VGA

1. Have you ever killed the Minotaur as a Thief?
2. Have you ever Snuck past the Kobold as a Fighter?
3. Have you casted calm on every single opponent as a Magic User and beaten the game without resorting to Violence?
4. Have you found the Money Tree? (found that today and had a good laugh)

I just beat QFG1 for the first time and ended up with 444/500. Although now I have a major problem I can't save my character to import it just keeps asking me if I would like to try again. anyone know how to export correctly here?

Check the disc. Maybe it already did save. If I remember correcly, QFG1 won't give a confirmation message when you export your character.  That had me confused for awhile also at first...

You should be able to get away with very few points by (a) not killing any monsters, (b) not frogging Baba Yaga at the end, (c) not doing the son, (d) not doing the ring. Just fight your way through the brigand ambush after making the dispel potion and rescue Elsa.

And you can pinch some points by not talking to anyone, avoiding the guild hall and not getting the healer any components.

Very glad that was optional.  :p

well I just thought someone would like to try this to see exactly how low they can get. my lowest was 336 and that was not frogging baba yaga, the challenge though is how can you not defeat any enemies and then beat the ambush? it'd be hard to kill them with those low points.

Unless you're the fighter, you don't get points for slaying critters. I suggest picking the thief, since the mage needs spells to be effective and getting spells is getting points. As a thief, you can pretty much work up your stats and money without getting many points. Just ignore the thief guild completely.

You can also lose points by getting drunk, killing the bear, and killing the spireas (after you've gotten the acorn).

So we know how to do it but will anyone actually get around to trying this?

The last one isn't totally avoidable. You can not give her claws and beards and stuff like that, but you need to give her a fair number of components to make the dispel potion.

I'm indeed talking about the mushrooms, beard and claws. (the things she pays you for)

The others aren't generic components.

And I suspected it was written like that on purpose. :)

Hmm... I wonder which class would be best at for this challenge...

The wizard would have to get several of the spells, and therefore would get quite a few points for that. The fighter could not fight any of the monsters or the weapon master and get less points that way. The thief could skip *all* his side quests, and therefore get hardly any points... I think thief would be the way to go. I might try this challenge :p

Wizard I would think. It's easy not to buy the spells to get the points, and it's always the hardest class to win the game with anyway.

I've killed the minataur as the thief. The first time I ever played the game through. Took me forever. I used to throw about 10 daggers, fight, escape, drink healing potion, get daggers, throw daggers and repeat. Same way to kill the Ogre.

for some reason I beat the game with a little over a hundred gold but never once thought about buying stamina potions even though stamina killed me more than anything else in the entire game.

I could swear escaping from the minotaur was not possible. (since he was a boss in some sense)

The minotaur was easy for me. I've always enjoyed playing a thief (until QFG3, when I started playing a paladin). During character creation I always bought into parry and magic (so that I had access to all the skills). In the minotaur battle, just use flame dart...drops the guy pretty quickly. Perhaps this isn't what was meant by "kill the minotaur as a thief", but technically I *was* a thief...
