It never ceases to amaze me how obsessed people can become. At least, my love of food and sleep will ensure that I will never be that guy. :P

Is it just me, or do things like this keep happening in the Far East?  I think this is the fourth or fifth time I've heard about something like this happening over there.

To paraphrase The Simpsons:

"(Directed at Homer, after Barney gives up drinking) We need someone to make our alcoholism seem less raging."

Same sort of deal.

I know a guy at work who played one Final Fantasy game for a week straight no sleeping until he beat it and only breaked to get food. He slept for I think he said 3 days straight after that.

Craziness.

Are you sure? I would have thought people would be staying on the computers much longer if it t'were an adventure game.

49 hours isn't that long! Ok. Over here people don't have time to go past 48 hours (we HAVE to work here to be able to play computer games), but since he died of an heart attack it's obvious something else was wrong.

*sigh* Typical media to blame computer games again.

Girl Has Seizure After 5 Hours Of Video Gaming

Another link from my mom... She's got to be spending all kinds of time on the computer to find the stuff she sends me. Perhaps she should head her own advice. ;)

Some teenager had died from playing World of Warcraft for several days and died from some organ failure since he hadnt eaten or even slept.

The total time I spend playing games in one day total is around 8-16hrs per day.

So many people play computergames for many hours straight, and nothing ever happens to 99,9% of them. Obviously some sort of foolish propaganda by sensation reporters.

I spend 23, I mean, 4 hours a day playing computer games, er... yes, 4.

Ahh yes, I found this in one of my classes. Apparently, Asian countries have the highest number of Internet cafes and MMORPG players.

Geeze, I love video games and all, but playing them for 49 hours straight and killing yourself... I couldn't do that in my dreams.

These are just games, and there's a time for them and a time for rest and other things... giving up everything just for an extremely prolonged gaming session is something that... nevermind. :eek

Till next time stay cool  :smokin

Perhaps you're refering to this: http://www.jsonline.com/news/state/mar02/31536.asp article? I saw it a couple of weeks ago, man some people are just screwed up. Killing yourself over a computer game... *shakes her head*.  :\

It's understandable.

I think that the concept "life" is way overestimated.

There have been plenty cases like this. (Mostly Asian countries) Its quite stupid for someone to play games for such a long period of time. Given the chance I would play games for hours on end but I'll laways need 8 hours sleep and a few meals. Otherwise problems might trigger just like in these stories.

Has anyone died playing an adventure game?

Hardly anyone plays adventure games anymore, which is a real pity. PC-gaming is not what it used to be.

Yes.

...and I always get some sarcastic death message. ;)

Seriously though, most adventures have a save/restore feature which will allow you to undo any big mistakes. Adventure games aren't set up to be played for months and months and months, so losing a save game really only results in a loss of a couple of days. At worst, you could probably play back through to where you were in a day because you already know the solutions to the puzzles.

Nice hat Deloria. :)
