trust me, you don't want a game in beta-form. Quest for Glory 4's release was an absolute nightmare. It's much more worth-while to just hold out for a stable release.

Aye, I'm still stuck on that one because of all the bugs in the game  >:   . No, having the game later is (almost) always better.

Hehe, fine by me. As long as my character won't be running up into the sky on every screen (aka QG4 release 1.0), I'll be happy to wait.  ;)

Reminds me of Altered Destiny. There was one scene in that game where you could walk all over the sky as well and when you'd try to come back on land via a fall-of-the-cliff zone, you'd fall off a cliff instead lol. Good times.

See, this is the statement people should remember when they demand games!

I mean, I could give you KQIIIVGA right now, but it'd have more bugs than QFGIV!!!

I don't know if it'll be an announcement of a beta or not, but I have no doubts that it'll be fairly significant. I don't think they'll have a PUBLIC beta release, if that's what you mean (and I don't think they should). It sounds like they're getting close to the end of the production line; mostly quirks to fix at this point it sounds like.

I was always curious about all these bugs, because I remember playing it on my old system, I never ran into a bug.  Of course I used the Floppy Disk version, no voices [they didn't release the CD version until later].  I finished the game as a Paladin [imported] & as a Wizard, not one flaw....

I think you've had a later version... if I remember correctly you couldn't finish QfG4 with the original release.

But still... you must have been very lucky to not encounter the other errors. Poor Lori was devastated when she learned how bugged the game still was. Sierra wanted it released immediatly, but the game was still in early beta phase.

Hehe, if it would have been the initial release, they would have known quite quickly...Michael Jordan couldn't catch as much air as our hero did in QG4's initial [read: "beta"] release.

I must have done everything correctly.. I remember playing as a Paladin, and I did get the original release because I pre-ordered from Sierra themselvse....  I remember the note from Katrina being a problem, but I found that on the right day....

Weird... I remember playing it with my CDVersion, years later I found Costco sold teh QFG4 CD version for $10, so I snagged it.  I think it was miss marked, it should still have been $35, even though I paid $40 or $50 for my Floppy Disc version... I think I had a few glitches with that CD version.

Oh well, anyways keep up the great work AGDI.  I think pretty much your work in KQVGA & KQ2VGA speak for themselves, so you have alot of expectations to live up to.  In the summer of 2005, I was looking forward to maybe testing out a Release Candiate in Summer 2006... so heres hopping.

Some of QfG4's bugs are also related to the CPU speed.  So if you played it when it released (and thus had a slow computer), you might not have run into those problems.

Sweet... I can't remember if I still had my 486sx 25mhz or if I upgraded to my Pentium 133mhz.... those were the days.  Instead of DOSBox, I actually had a SoundBlaster 16....and i knew how to setup my own DOS Envifornment variables.

I could easily handle an updated (debugged) QG4. Even on an old computer, it's buggy as hell (good old error 52). At least that's how the cd version is. It'd be nice to see somebody fix that up.

Yeah, a sad problem when the company wants to release the game in time for a high spending season (like Christmas) and the whole thing winds up a fiasco. A similiar case happened with Ultima 9, when the early release was so fraught with bugs that the game was practically unplayable. After a while they did release a remastered game on the market that has at least been partially patched and gave a free copy of Ultima Online to all people who registered their copies as an apology!

QFG 4 had Error 52, which was really the only dastardly bug in the game (all others could be bypassed easily) but as computers got faster and faster, the bug became pretty much impossible to get past. Of course, DosBox came along and saved the day, much to everyone's relief. :)

Till next time stay cool  :smokin
