KQVGA in DOS?

The site says that KQVGA is supposed to run in dos. But every time I try to open the KQ1VGA installer within dos, it says "This program cannot be run in DOS mode." I tried installing it on a windows machine and then trying it in dos, but I get the same thing. What am I supposed to do? Is there a windows version AND a separate dos version? If so where is the dos version?

Thanks!

You need to go to the AGS website and download the DOS version of the interpreter. Then, from the command line, use the Windows executable as a parameter to ACDOS.

At least, I believe that's how it's done. Do note that this won't make the games run on a 486 (if that's what you're planning to do), and it's not really a supported way of running the game.

Thanks.

Actually I'm not running it on a 486; I'm running it on a PowerMac G4 using DosBox.

For most intents and purposes, DOSBox *is* a 486 - or 386. I'm not even sure if it implements all the CPU instructions AGS needs, and it (likely) won't run at a playable speed.

If you have OS X 10.4, there's a beta on the AGS site you should be able to use to play the game.

how do I run it? It's just an application. I try to open it, then I tried to drag the king's quest vga file onto it and I get a message:

Adventure Game Studio Error!

Main game file not found. This may be from a different AGS version, or the file may have got corrupted.

For your convenience, this message is saved in a file called 'agserror.txt' in the game directory.

It does the same thing whether I drag the app onto it or just try to open the app. I think I'm just doing something wrong. How do I open it?

Thanks!

Never mind- I figured it out. Thanks.

BTW, for all who are interested, the AGS isn't just for 10.4 tiger. I am using 10.3 panther and it works just fine, just so you know. :) Maybe somebody might want to update the system requirements?

Out of curiosity, what specifically did you do to get the game to run on a Mac? It might be useful information for future people.
