New 2007 Duke Nukem Forever Teaser

#1 Post by MusicallyInspired » Wed Dec 19, 2007 8:23 pm

They released a single screenshot yesterday and today the teaser trailer was released. For those who are also into FPS's and have been (or not been, as the case may very well be) looking forward to the next Duke game, this may be of some interest to you.

The 3D Realms website has been kaput all morning, I don't know if it's doing much better now, but here's the youtube link to the teaser. Just keep in mind that the downloadable version is high definition and is of uber-quality and is up on ShackNews. Though it's quickly becoming available everywhere else as well.

Looks like it may actually be finished soon this time ;).

... How long has this game been in development?

As far as I've ben told, they began in January 1997, announcing it 3 months later, so that'd make it almost 11 years old.

I've taken the stance that I won't react any further to DNF until I see it released. It's just too easy to bash, and there's really no point in getting your hopes up yet (not when it's been this long underway).

Eh, I'm not all that interested in it either.  It just piques my curiosity as being one of the longest commercial games to ever be in development with plans to still release it.

Has it really been continuously developed since 97? Those graphics speak otherwise. They've had to have at least scrapped previous work and started from scratch graphics-wise a few times.

I use "development" in a loose basis.  What I mean is that they've kept at it and not given up, even though it was announced over 10 years ago.  I'm pretty sure they've switched engines a couple times too.

They claim they've only switched engines once, but the evidence says it was in fact many more times. At first it was using the Quake 2 engine, then the Unreal engine, then the Quake 3 engine, I believe, than they wanted to make their own engine. I'm not sure after that but right now they're back at a heavily modified version of the Unreal engine. And almost every time they switched engines they scrapped all their work and started over.

With the release of Prey (which is a very very old game as well, development-wise. You can see preview screenshots of it on the very first release of Duke3D) I thin 3D Realms is getting things together with finishing old projects. We may yet see Duke again this year.

So you expect DNF to be released within less than ten days, huh?  You're an optimist. :p

When I say "this year" I mean it in a way kinda like "this saturday" meaning the next closest one not the current one.

I kinda guessed that, but considering how DNF has become synonymous with vaporware, I felt I had to comment on the other interpretation. :D

Duke Nukem Forever
QFG2VGA
Diablo III
Max Payne 3
Starcraft Ghost
Metroid Dread
or Call of Cthulhu: Destiny's End

kidding, we all know DNF will come out first.

You forgot Warcraft IV, the QFG MMO, Space Quest 7 and finally a video game based off a movie that doesn't suck and isn't on NES.

Hey now, there were some fair share of bad movie video games for the NES, as the Angry Video Game Nerd tells us. Just some examples: TMNT1, Back to the Future 1 and 2, Friday the 13th, Nightmare on Elm Street, Who Framed Roger Rabbit, Ghostbusters, and Rambo.

QFG MMO!? When did that become a project? And more importantly, who cliamed to be making it?

But back to the topic at hand, I used to play Duke Nukem 3D with my older brother and my grandpa in LAN matches all the time, it's basically the game that got me into FPS shooters. Anyhow, I'm excited to see this game come out, regardless of graphics.

TMNT1 was a classic, hard as it was.  I played that game relentlessly as a kid and loved every frustrating minute of it.
