Ebaying QFG Question
So here is the scoop.
I own two retail version of the entire QFG Series.
Heros Quest
Quest for Glory I
Quest for Glory II
Quest for Glory III
Quest For Glory IV
Quest for Glory V
Quest for Glory Collection
Since I'm getting more broke due to school, I'm thinking of ebaying the 1st 4 games, since I own the CD of them all anyways. Here is my question. Can I make a copy of the CD, and sell it WITH QFG1-4? The reason I suggest this is QFG3 is on 5.25" Discs, and I doubt anyone has a 5.25" drive. This is the reason why I prefer to keep the CD myself, besides it has all the books/guides on the disc, and I can get rid of these boxes. All of my boxes/manuals are mint, so i think its a good idea. I'm just double checking the legality with this first. (Of course, I would not include QFG in german, spanish etc, just only the ones I'm selling on floppy)
Thanks.. and I can NOT wait for QFG2VGA!

Re: Ebaying QFG Question
Don't burn them to CD. That's a fine line of legal questioning there. You'd be surprised at the people who are in the market for the original disks. Head over to www.vintage-sierra.com and visit their forums. There's tons of collectors there who could let you in on how much that stuff is worth and if it'd be worth selling. I guarantee it would, though. There's a lot of classic collector's out there who just want to own the original stuff and not ever use it.

I agree with MusicallyInspired. You have to be very careful when making copies of games other than to store for yourself as your personal backup copy. When you get into selling games, selling a copy or copies of a game can get you into legal trouble.
I understand why you would offer to do that, as you said, 5.25" drives aren't too common these days. Even the 3.5" drives are becoming less common. You just have to be mindful of legal issues.

Re: Ebaying QFG Question
Just remember, you'll probably get more bids of more value if you sell the original disks. Nobody wants a cheap burned CD. Half of everyone can do that. And the other half won't want it because they'll automatically assume it's illegal anyway. So even if it isn't it won't matter.
Re: Ebaying QFG Question
Are you saying you'd burn the contents of the 5 1/4 inch disks to CD and supply the CD in addition to the disks? I'm not really sure if that's illegal...it's probably borderlining, but if the CD contains nothing more than what's on the disks I don't see why not. You can't always guarantee every disk to work anymore nowadays.
Re: Ebaying QFG Question
Erpy: Yes. I'm going to sell the original floppies, plus box + manuals, but include a burned copy of the floppies onto CD. Then again, it may be easier to just not burn it, if someone wants it they more than likely want it as a collection or can find an old machine to extract the data.
MusicallyInspired: I'm not going to sell a burned CD. I'm going to sell originals, as I told Erpy, but I wanted to know if I should include a copy of the data on CD. I'm thinking that it may just be worth it in the long run NOT to include it, this way I'm safe.

Re: Ebaying QFG Question
I believe you're legally allowed to make one backup copy for your own purposes with most (if not all) software. Though, I'm not sure what the legality of making a backup copy for the purchaser would be. Perhaps the onus is on them to make their own backup copy on their end after buying it.
Personally, I'd probably steer away from doing this, since you'd be including two copies of each QFG game with the sale, yet you're only selling one of them. Each QFG game grants you only an individual license to use it on one computer. So including a legal version of the game and a copy could be seen as illegal as far as the licensing permissions go.

Re: Ebaying QFG Question
I don't think it's illegal either; the one legal back-up is not format restricted. So, as long as you include the original disk and make sure you stress that the back-up CD is for free, it's not illegal. It is however very hard to prove you're really not making any money from that back-up CD.Erpy wrote:Are you saying you'd burn the contents of the 5 1/4 inch disks to CD and supply the CD in addition to the disks?
