Never used that. There's a way to make your programs run full screen on DosBox too, I also had a problem getting it at first.
Re: Use D-Fend to play old classic games like Sierra games.
Hmm... for fullscreen in DOSBox all you should have to do is press Alt-Enter or set the "fullscreen" line in the dosbox.conf file to "true".
But still, some people might prefer D-Fend if they find the DOSBox setup files a bit difficult to understand (D-Fend is just DOSBox, with a Windows interface)

Actually... D-Fend has some pretty cool features. I might actually start using it. I might save me a few annoying seconds of editing the conf file manually whenever I switch what game I'm playing and navigating directories in DOS...

Running in full screen was never a problem for me (hitting ALT+ENTER), neither setting up conf files.
However, full screen is not very satisfying in many cases, as it changes the relative sizes to fit the screen resolution, which can result in stretching and such. I've never been able to obtain a satisfying setting for those screens.

I can run KQ5-6 QfG1 and 2 just fine full screens.

I'm guessing you mean it being stretched into a wide-screen view? (since typically a non-wide-screen monitor should be fine) Some video cards have an option in their display settings that should fix that by making them only use a 4:3 ratio, leaving the sides black and therefore making it appear normal.Spikey wrote:Running in full screen was never a problem for me (hitting ALT+ENTER), neither setting up conf files.

Yeah, it's only a problem with wide screens which don't support non wide screen resolutions.

I guess you won't until you buy a monitor which doesn't support classic resolutions.

...Ok, I guess I'll buy one just for that...jkSpikey wrote:I guess you won't until you buy a monitor which doesn't support classic resolutions.

(The David Duke was a screen shot of his website to prove that he didn't like Obama)
Works for me. I had to manually set up the config files to play in full screen, but four config files (Well two, rather) to play four series of games is good (I got the Kings Quest and Space Quest one, then setup the same thing with the Quest For Glory anthology and the Police Quest games I already had.)

If anyone is struggling with a monitor which only supports downscaling with stretching, or no classic resolutions at all, you can set the DosBox conf file to a classic ratio by adding this at the top of your conf file;
[sdl]
fullresolution=960*600
output=overlay
You'll have to compute which classic resolution is optimal for your height using the ratios, of course.
You'll have to hit ALT+ENTER to go to fullscreen of course, or add a line that you want to boot up in full screen.
Make sure you use the * if you want the screen to be centered, and an x if you want to line it out the left (this is probably a bug, though I'm not sure).
You can also enter
windowresolution=bla*bla
right in the sdl section, which determines the size of the small window, but you'll have to calculate things like the windows taskbar in (if you're even using windows and a constantly visible taskbar).
Make sure you have an output specified other than the default, else it won't work.

Yeah it does, I never really thought of the SQ games as "bad" enough to be "t", but, maybe some of them might be, anyways, they're not as clean as KQ

some of the death animations actually seem pretty gruesome in Space Quest. Then again I used to be terrified by the witch in Kings Quest V. I'd hide under the desk and try to click restore without looking at froggy graham.
