Resolutions...

#1 Post by Charles269 » Tue Aug 21, 2001 10:52 am

Is there any difference between the 3 resolutions?

From the options, you can select 320*200, 640*400, or 960*600. Is there any *real* difference between these resolutions, other than stretching it 2 or 3 times it's normal size?

Hi Charles! Well, the actual resolution of the pictures in the game are 320x200. So, using a higher resolution won't make them appear any more clear, and will only slow down the game. So, I'd highly recommend you just stick with the 320x200 option.

Anonymous Game Developer #1

Using 640x400 can be useful if your graphics card refuses to run the game at 320x200 (as some graphics cards tend to do)

But if you're able to run the game at 320x200 with your graphics card, then that's all you need to do to experience the full graphical potential of the game.

So I guess that's a feature of AGS, multiple screen resoluions. Any chance you guys will make a 640*400 version of the game. Nevermind, that'd probably be too much work to convert all the graphics you have already made. Might be something to consider for future games. You can still have the old-skool Sierra feel with double the resolution.

We could, but then all the animations would need to be more detailed and of better quality, plus have more frames. And the backgrounds would need to be twice the size, meaning that the game would be twice as big to. That's why were sticking to 320x200.

Why's it so big?

#6 Post by Charles269 » Wed Aug 22, 2001 8:47 am

That reminds me of something else I wanted to ask... I should probably post a new topic, but since I'm here... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Why is KQ1VGA so big? I mean, KQ6 wasn't even 50 megs. In fact, I don't think any of the Sierra games were 50 megs without sound. Well, maybe KQ7 or LSL7. Has this more to do with AGS than anything else? Is there no way to compress the stored graphics any?

Yes, that has to do with AGS as well. Currently, people are asking for more and more new features to be added to the AGS engine every day. Chris Jones has been spending his time adding these features and really hasn't had the time to work on optimization and compression of game/file sizes at all.
