QFG2?

#1 Post by Paladin Thief » Tue Aug 21, 2001 10:56 pm

Hey,
I just had to say that your remake on KG1 was AMAZING! I can't wait til the voice pack is perfected... You guys are really something else and I really commend you on your dedication to the project. It just shows that devoted, talented fans like yourselves can really make something as good (if not better) than the original.
That said, I realize that you guys have an insane amount of talent. If you're taking suggestions for future projects, could I please humbly suggest a Quest For Glory 2 remake? I know Sierra remade the 1st QFG, and not too shabbily at all, but for some reason they just never redid the 2nd game and it's very awkward in comparision to the other 4 mouse-driven games. If you guys took a crack at it, I know all us QFG fans out on the net would just wet ourselves.

Hi there! Thanks! These type of posts are really inspiring for us to make more games. Mostly we hear posts about what games shouldn't be remade! So it's always a nice change when someobody suggests that we might just be capable of remkaing a certain game<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Our next remake is currently in the works. I wish I could say what it was already, but we're going to wait till the next version of KQ1 and voice-pack is released, before mentioning what it is<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Personally, I wouldn't. I've always liked the SCI-VGA graphics and Parser Interface. I would like to see KQ2 and 3 redone as VGA. EGA just gets on my nerves.
The Beast Within!

QFG2 was EGA. KQ2 and KQ3 were CGA.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/uanonymousgame ... >Anonymous Game Creator 2 at: 9/1/01 12:34:33 am

Well, I guess you'd know.
The Beast Within!
Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/umaster2468.sh ... ter2468 at: 9/1/01 2:10:43 am

Oh?

There most likely was a CGA version of the early KQ games, but I know the KQ2 and KQ3 I've seen are EGA. They have 16 colors. CGA has 4 (usually either brown, red, green, black or cyan, magenta, white, black). There's no fundamental difference between the graphics of KQ2 and QfG2. Both are EGA. It's just that that the AGI engine only supported a width of 160 for the graphics. So the graphics are only half as detailed as those of SCI0. If you look at the title bar of those AGI games, though, you see that the 160-width restriction doesn't exist there. So it just doesn't make full use of the EGA it has...

Mystery House was made for the Apple II and has no colors at all. It's monochrome.

I guess this is one of those technology/terminology mixups.. kind of like how KQ1 SCI is sometimes referred to KQ1 VGA.

Anyways, my point is that QFG2 was an EGA game, and the later VGA QFG games didn't inlcude a text parser. But if Tierra ever did decided to remake any of one of more complex sierra games, we'd probably keep the text parser, and incorporate it with VGA graphics and an icon-based interface.

I just wanna say,

Playing through KQ1 VGA has been a dream come true for me!!!!

I can understand why some people don't want the older games remade, because they usually screw some thing up. But I don't think that's the case with the remakes of QG1, SQ1, or PQ1, and I also don't think Tierra screwed up with KQ1 VGA remake, because they were MORE than faithful to the original KQ1, more faithful than I think Sierra would have been, I love how it even has the original voice of King Graham from KQ5 (My favorite KQ ever) ....!!!!!!

But I would be sorely disappointed if Tierra stopped, like Sierra did, because I wanted to See KQ1, 2, 3, and 4 redone to KQ5's standards.... The same for the Space Quest 2 and THe Black Cauldron.. I hate to hear it when people try to put down the re-dos, because to me they represent a really good reason to play through the old games again, and each new screen is a pleasent suprise in the nice VGA, and I play the game just looking forward to seeing how cool the old backgrounds look in VGA!!!

So keep it up Tierra, there will be one person at least playing the games you make...<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

But I'm still playing KQ1 on my PCjr!!!! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

I must disagree.

For QfG1, the remake introduced all sorts of bugs, and I don't like the VGA conversation system. The new combat system is good, though. If the bugs were gone, it would be a very good remake, I think.

For SQ1, I really dislike the remake. The whole thing is one speed-related bug. The graphics are ugly. They added an inventory item that wasn't in the original. They took out a possible solution to some puzzles. They completely changed the bands that played in the bar. It really didn't remain faithful to the original.

As for PQ1... I haven't played those games very often. One difference is that they changed barkeep at the Hotel Delphoria, so PQ2 doesn't make complete sense. However, I must say that they completely ruined the game with the remake. In the original, you had a Corvette, but in the remake it's a Camaro <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> .

Then there's also the SCI KQ1 remake. It's great. There are some differences (like the gnome's name), but I think they're all good. The graphics and music are very much improved.

I think KQ1 VGA remake is actually better than most sierra ones. Almost all of the original stuff was preserved. They just enhanced it. For the gnome puzzle, they even have both previous solutions. I don't think anyone could really complain about it being in any way inferior to the original. I really can't stress enough how great it is.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/uadeyke.showPu ... >adeyke at: 9/4/01 1:36:49 am

They changed the gnomes name because people had a lot of trouble guessing it. I should know, who would have guessed NKOVHGROGHPRM (Thankfully I got this game when the internet was around). NIKSTLITSELPMUR is easier to guess.
The Beast Within!

I could think of NKOVHGROGHPRM. Maybe not as a six year-old, as I was playing, but I could nowadays, with the note's help. (Of course, I can convert letters to numbers in my head for fun, but that's beside the point.) Unfortunately for me, my copy of KQ I (the OLD version) didn't seem to accept it. I can't use it anymore, but I'm not worrying about it now.

I have one question, though: how would you pronounce the gnome's name, either of them?
Carrots are Nature's toothbrush; celery, its floss. The Shin Sen Gumi motto: Sin, Swift, Slay.
