That's strange. Does the program give you any sort of error message when you try to run the main application a second time? ~Wolfgang

No, no error message. On my desktop it shows a picture of a floppy for this game, for kings quest II it showed a package to unwrap, kqII ran just fine. Very strange indeed.

You shouldn't need to run the install program everytime. Look in the directory in which KQ1VGA was installed. Check for an application to run the game (I can't remember the exact name of the correct application at the moment) and use that instead. It sounds like the install program was downloaded to your desktop, which is entirely possible. The game files were unpacked in a different directory, so you'll need to locate that directory and find the application file that runs the game and run that instead (or make a shortcut to it and put in on your desktop/start menu). Mine did the exact same thing. I had no idea how to fix it, but I was able to play it anyway. Although it runs through the installation process, your saved games are still there and no extra memory is taken up. After I played it through a couple of times, though, I uninstalled it because of that problem. I didn't want to go through it again...and if I ever get in the mood to play it again, I'll just go back to tierra to reinstall it. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> Cat Tenna' ento lye omenta

Personally, I loathe shortcuts on the Desktop and get rid of them all right after an installation. After all, that's what the Start Menu is for. Unfortunately, as the installer for KQ1VGA wasn't yet as sophisticated as the one for KQ2VGA, you don't even get that. If you go to the directory where it installed (c<img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... ohwell.gif ALT=":\"> kqvga or something) there should be a kqvga.exe or something that'll run the program. Either just use that way to run the game or make a shortcut to that on your Desktop or Start Menu.

I think we all just get spoiled by everything that does it automatically for you. You don't usually have to think about it, so when the times comes when you do, you don't consider it. Everything is just too user friendly! I want my DOS back! I simply hate having a cluttered desktop and would much rather have everything subcategorised under the Start Menu instead. I also, whenever possible, forbid programs to add thing to my Start Menu for me, because they usually just dump it in the Programs folder, make an entirely new folder, and place about 10 applications in there which really irritates me. I prefer to make the shortcuts and add them manually where I want them. Keeps things all neat and orderly. So many installers simply don't give the option of whether or not to create shortcuts, so I just keep default settings and delete afterwards <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> . If a game makes shortcuts in the Start Menu, I just move the one for the actual game (and other potentially useful things) to Programs -> Games, and delete everything else <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> . If I'm going to uninstall something, I'll do it via the Add/Remove Programs thing, not a Start Menu shortcut <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> .

My hard drive is chaotic. It has no order or structure whatsoever, and there are files, games, and folders all over the place! Strangely, though, it feels more comfortable having it like that.

I just have to get in on this.... (and I'm being completely honest here) Presently, I have 362,898 files in 13,631 directories that total 221.7 GBs of data over 6 drives (60, 80, 2x80 mirror & 2x100 mirror). I use the sorting method: the menu tree has Applications, Audio, Games, Graphics, Network, Programming, Startup, Utilities and Video. Hard drives have a structure using directories like MEDIA, BIN, SOFTWARE, PROJECTS and such with a continuing breakdown (like 'D:\Media\MP3\Weird Al Yankovic\Off The Deep End' or 'D:\Software\Programming\Numerical Recipes in C') My room mate has 29,834 files in 1,543 directories that total 90.4 GBs of data over 2 drives (80, 80). He uses the chaos sorting method. To be honest, other than the added bonus of having a short program menu and small root directories, I'm not sure how much the sorting actually helps. Although I manage literally x10 the number of files, my room mate and I both have no problems finding anything. I guess maybe when you are really conformable with your computer, it doesn't matter how you organize things. <img src="http://DrQue.net/MrMan_60x60.gif" style="border:0;"/>
