SQ3VGA...

#127 Post by FullJee » Wed Aug 14, 2002 11:27 pm

For SQ3, some people are actually working on the project since 1 month. And unless they abandon the project, I don't think Tierra will remake it. Anyway, if Kippesoep succesfully remake SQ2, why he don't remake SQ3. So clear SQ3 from the list :)

For the SQ2 fan...
"I've talked with Kippesoep some time ago and he told me his room is actually full with sketches and drawings for his game. His plans are to release a small demo by August. And whadda ya know? It's August, so I guess he had more work on his hands than he thought he would. I think we'll hear from him any time soon. " -Frans van Hofwegen

So be patient :)

(nods) There's definitely an SQ3VGA-project planned by some people, but only the future can tell whether or not they'll actually finish it and what it'll be like. It's listed at http://www.rootnetwork.d2g.com/sqfang/index.html under "new projects".

gold rush

#129 Post by shine64 » Fri Aug 16, 2002 9:52 pm

id really like to see Gold Rush remade. i loved that game....altho i was too young when i last played it to know how to do anything in it lol. but i loved the game. i must find that again.....

another game like that for me was Conquest of Camelot.....again way to complex for me back then but i still loved it.

other games are kq3, kq4...hmm...i surprisingly cant think of any more....sq3 is already taken...hope it works out.

heres a crazy idea.....and i dont expect tierra or anyone else to do this cuz it would pretty much be a waste of time.....but take an already existing VGA game and remake it with completely different backgrounds/sprites/animations/sounds/voices right down to detail untill even their clothes and faces are different

its a kool 'what if' thing to think about anyway :)

or hey....remake a vga game in AGI. then you'd have 2 versions of all the games :D

VGA re-remake...

#130 Post by FullJee » Sat Aug 17, 2002 5:08 am

I think it can be funny to see 2 same games but with different graphic, but I can be also a big waste of time cause while Tierra remade those games they won't be able do remake those who need to be remade, and I'm sure that it will be better, even before remake those who are already in VGA, to release patch or only remake those who need to correct those timer bug, 'cause if they remake a VGA games with a timer bug, people who won't be able to finish the Sierra's one, won't be able to see the differences between the Sierra's one and the Tierra's one. And finally, whe all know that Tierra won't pass all their life remaking Sierra games, I'm sure, a day, they will try to make their own games, using the skills they have win remaking all those games.

Yes, isn't it. Maybe it's because this is a hot topic.

hoping for kq4

#134 Post by anee » Sat Aug 24, 2002 3:14 am

I voted kq3 only because I really want to see a kq4 game since that one is my favourite of the king quest series.

Kippesoep is another developer who's also working on an SQ2-remake. (that was our secret project, as you may have read)

His site is at www.sq2remake.cjb.net

Kippesoep is also registred to the Roger Wilco Virtual Broomcloset Message Board ( wiw.org/~jess/roger.html ) now, 'cause he will release a demo soon and he will need to get the comments of the fan to continue his remake so if you have some questions, just ask him there, we will be glad to answer them.

I'm almost positive it will be. As long as AGS is compatible with Windows XP, then any game made under it will be too. And AFAIK, AGS is most definitely XP compatible.

well i just got a new laptop with a LCD monitor a couple of days ago and it can't display kg1vga, it says it can't handle the pixel display, so i guess since your's is running fine on WIN XP, the problem is with the LCD

That sounds more like a driver problem than a hardware problem. I'd suggest you download the latest drivers, then try again -- King's Quest I VGA does have a somewhat peculiar resolution.

No, my drivers are all up-to-date, it's my screen, it's can handle that kind of resouliton. Luckly I also have a normal monitor that I can plug my laptop into

I don't know if this will help but...

#143 Post by Bester » Wed Sep 04, 2002 9:00 am

I had a similar problem with my notebook when I first bought the 7th guest years ago. With a monitor it was fine, but wouldn't work with the LCD.

However I did get it working. It may not help in this case, but...

Get to DOS prompt in correct directory

Press whatever key combo/button/switch that toggles your notebook between CRT/LCD/both until it's set to CRT (Yes even though there is no CRT)

Type name of program and hit enter

Wait until you know it's had time to load, or until sound is heard.

Toggle back to LCD

Yeah, AGS is much improved from its KQ1VGA days, and it was really great back then too :)

Voted for KQ3 simply because I'd love to see the "EGA hole" patched in King's Quest series. There're many good EGA games that could benifit from a remake but most other games mentioned are only single EGA versions in the series. Well, except Space Quest (but someone else is already working on SQ2).

I'm eagerly awaiting KQ2VGA, so that I can appreciate KQ5 and KQ6 better without worrying about not being able to follow the story because I didn't play KQ3 and KQ4. And when their remakes are out, I can enjoy them as their own stories/adventures.

Also, I don't think Tierra will be known only for remaking King's Quest, since they're already working on QG2VGA.

Anyway, my preference is QG2VGA (since it's already been started on, it is a good game and I'd love to play it in VGA but my favorite was QG4), then KQ3, KQ4, and SQ3 (if no one's remaking it at the time). However, there's one exception -- I would be just as happy to see Laura Bow 1 remade at any point :-)

One question about future remakes... will you do as with King's Quest 2 and extend the original game or will you do a traditional remake?

Personally, I'd like to see traditional remakes... altering and adding things to the games is almost like desecrating holy grounds (in lack of better words =P ).

To be ontopic though, I'd adore a remake of King's Quest 3. It's one of my favourite Sierra game of them all, there's just something really special about it and it screams for a remake since it's only AGI.
