Speech pack great - but...
First of all, congrats to all those involved in creating the KQ2+ speech pack. Not only is the amount of work that must have gone into it impressive, the voice acting is definitely up to Sierra levels (yeah, there are one or two voices that I think could have been done more interestingly, but that's as much personal opinion as anything else). I've only replayed about half the game, but especially Angelina's stuck out as really cool. <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

One thing's a great pity though - it's very clear that the voices were recorded in very different places, and that does take away from the effect, IMO. Graham sounds a bit as if he's been stuffed into a suitcase prior to recording him. Also, there is some inconsistency in pronunciation. While these don't change the fact that you've achieved something fantastic, you may want to watch out for them next time (somehow I hear the Tierra gang going "Ha! Next time!" and breaking out in hysterical laughter).

In any case, thank you all very, very much!

Nice one, Erpy... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /smile.gif ALT=":)">

Anyway, I am fully aware of the huge impracticability (I've just been working on the theory section of my sodding thesis, so I'm prone to using words of seven syllables or more...). However, the voice recording in KQ1 didn't strike me as 'uneven' (for want of a better word) as this one. Might just be my slowly deconstructing mind, though... <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... /alien.gif ALT="0]">

Re: Speech pack great - but...
Or it simply may have been the fact that KQ2 had more than twice the amount of characters than its prequel did and 10 times the amount of lines. KQ1VGA's talkie bits were "fairly" rare, but KQ2VGA had dialogue all over the place.

<img src="http://members.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nas ...

Thanks, dear. Rather liked Angelina myself <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> .

Re: :Smiles:
What program was used to record/edit the voices? I have a downloaded program called Cool Edit I use for that kind of thing. It does just about everything, or everything I'd like it to do. If Tierra wants it, I'd be happy to email it or upload it to my homepage.

<a href="http://pub49.ezboard.com/fgaminggroundz ... <img src="http://malekdarshin.homestead.com/files/junki.gif" style="border:0;"alt="The Junki Knights of Junkyardia."/>

Re: :Smiles:
Yeah, Cooledit was probably the most used util for this enterprise.

<img src="http://httpd.chello.nl/c.vanempel/Nashn ...

Re: :Smiles:
The difference in voice recording levels is less noticable with the music pack being used. If you were playing with MIDI and voices, then you might want to try playing it with the music pack instead.

We used Cool Edit Pro to normalize all the voice files and clean them up. Yeah, we could have gone through and cleaned/tweaked them to perfection, but that would have taken many more months and wouldn't be feasible for a non-profit game. Besides, KQ2VGA was getting a bit old after spending over a year every day working on it... we want to move onto something else!

I prefer Sound Forge. It is one sweet piece of software.

----------
Sponge Factory

Re: :Smiles:
If you already have Cool Edit pro, then you have me beat. I did use the music pack, and I really didn't hear any problems. I just figured that some people were nitpicking. Were the actors also using Cool Edit? It might be easier to handle the files if they were all made by the same program. The copy of Cool Edit I have is about 7-8 megs. I don't know how big Pro is.

<a href="http://pub49.ezboard.com/fgaminggroundz ... <img src="http://malekdarshin.homestead.com/files/junki.gif" style="border:0;"alt="The Junki Knights of Junkyardia."/>
