He is lucky not to have played Curse of Enchantia when he was a kid. Same with Ween: The Prophecy, for that matter. Also, he was wrong about Maniac Mansion allowing you to start on an unwinnable state, but I give him that some kid combinations really felt impossible to win with.

I was surprised GK 2 and KQV weren't on there.
Re: Random rants go here.
After ruining our country for the next 20 years and creating a rate of unemployment of 20% among adults and 50% among the young, the socialists have done it so bad that the labor union has been forced to go on strike at the end of this month against a law that was approved three months ago (they purposely choose not to go on strike until well after it was too late to do anything).
Note:
The labor unions in Spain are unlike normal labor unions, their members are normal workers from each business that cannot be fired, and get a salary for doing nothing, for example, spanish tv channel has 300 "liberados" (union workers that don't work at all, but get their full salary). They also don't need the rest of the workers to affiliate to have someone to defend, they get additional money directly from the government (over 200 millions of euros each year) so that they can impart courses for workers to learn their profession (courses you have to pay for, obviously, and that are totally useless except in that you'll have priority if they choose to hire you). This result in that the affiliation on labor unions is under 6% of the total number of workers.
Regardless of that, they have the right under the law to dictate the rules that all workers will have to abide to, even the ones that aren't affiliated with them. This has caused that non-government employees have now turn-switch, so that they have to work one week from 8am to 2pm, and the next from 10pm to 8am, and the next from 2pm to 10pm (which let me tell you is awful!!!!). They say it's done that way because the night hours are worth 1 euro more per hour, and that way all workers can benefit of that plus, but harms all those that would prefer to have fixed hours.
It's also suspected that labor unions in Spain are puppets of the socialist party, that uses them violently when they need them. All this introduction is needed to fully understand the following statement:
The strike at the end of this month will not be against the government or the ruling party, they have said with public ads that it will be organized against the opposition (that hasn't been in charge of anything for 6 years, and whose laws proposals all have been turned down at the congress because they are at minority). That is, if we have 5.000.000 millions out of 25 millions of active adults without work it has been the fault of the opposition that has been unable to do anything to prevent the situation because all their law propositions have been systematically rejected. It's not the fault of the government even though most analysts from all around the globe were warning them that they were doing the complete opposite of what had to be done to prevent a crysis!!
I'm so enragened about the rampant corruption and nerve in my country that I had to post this random rant.

Re: Random rants go here.
My brother's girlfriend gave birth to their first son two nights ago. She lost a lot of blood during the birth and had to go into surgery to repair internal bleeding.
Yesterday she required a blood transfusion, and early this morning she suffered an unexpected seizure. She's only 19, so I hope everything's going to be alright...

Geez, I hope everything's all right too. Blood loss and internal bleeding during childbirth are complicated issues. I'm sure she'll pull through - and congrats on being an uncle. I wish her and your family well on this.

Re: Random rants go here.
Thanks, guys. She had to be rushed to the intensive care ward to have brain scans and it actually was a life threatening situation.
She was breast feeding the baby and suddenly she felt herself getting very warm in the head. The warmness turned into blistering heat and she fell down on the floor and started convulsing. Fortunately there was another woman in the same room who called the nurses and doctors in. Now she's being monitored constantly. They said it was lucky she was standing up when she had the seizure because if she was lying in bed at the time, nobody would have been alerted to it and she probably would have died.
It's a condition called eclampsia. The doctors said it was rare, and the hospital had never seen a case before in 70 years. Needles to say, she had all kinds of specialists asking her questions all day. They said she's still at risk of having further seizures, but it should only take a few days for the eclampsia to dissipate from her system. In the meantime, she's constantly being kept within 10 meters of the front desk, so she's within the doctor's eyesight at all times.

That's terrible, I'm sorry to hear that! It's lucky they caught it, and hopefully they'll be able to treat her and help her get back to normal so she can enjoy her new baby. I really hope everything turns out for the best.

Re: Random rants go here.
Sorry to hear about your predicament it's awful for someone to go through that. My brother on my dads side of the family just lost his sister in-law. She left behind three kids one was a teenager 16 I think and the youngest was 2 so she probably won't remember her mother. Which is sad because I don't know how my life would have been if my mom wasn't around.

Re: Random rants go here.
Well, she's back at home now, so things are getting a little better. But she had to go through surgery a few more times after more hemorrhaging. She also developed Bell's Palsy in the right half of her face as a side-effect of the seizure she experienced, which she's been placed on medication for. (She can't blink her right eye at the moment) But they're hoping that will clear up in a few weeks.
Also, John Romero just sent us an e-mail!

Well, it's good to hear that she is home now. Let's hope the problem doesn't manifest again with the next newborn.
Also, which John Romero? The one from Daikatana, or the one from the zombie movies?

John Romero of Daikatana/Doom fame. (The other zombie guy was George Romero, wasn't it?)

Think of it this way. John Romero & John Carmack both worked at Id software. Well, I guess Carmack founded it or something and is still there today). But I always remember it because of the two 'Johns'.DrJones wrote:I always get the names mixed.

HAHAH, i remembered seeing this scene the 1st time i played SQ4 and was like Whats a Gigabyte.
How many 3.5 Floppys would it take to make a 12 Gigabite game?!?

Re: Random rants go here.
Well, that depends. If they were 3.5" HD floppies (1.44 Mb), it would take approximately 8334 disks. ED floppies (2.88 Mb) would need about 4167 disks. If you move into the late-model advanced disks like the "floptical," the LS models, or the HiFD, it could take as few as fifty.Billetwound wrote:How many 3.5 Floppys would it take to make a 12 Gigabite game?!?

Re: Random rants go here.
i remember all my sierra disks being 1.44megs, so that would be one HUGE box to take out of the store. They'd need a fork lift and you'd need a moving truck to get it home, and then by the time you got it installed, they would have changed the name of the game to King's Quest XXXXVIII: Where did my life go?... ( or since Kings quest mocked names of sayings "Where Did my Wife Go?") LOL
I also remember at the end of Space quest 4 you could trash like KQXLVI and Free up 1 TB of space on the super computer, But LSL4 only free'd up .01 meg LOL.

I remember trashing everything but I never noticed the change in disk space. That's funny.

Re: Random rants go here.
my favorite was trashing SQIV and the game just going to dos..... I thought it was crashing when i did that, ( I was a kid) i didn't put 2 and 2 together for a long time.

Actually...Billetwound wrote:i remember all my sierra disks being 1.44megs, so that would be one HUGE box to take out of the store. Assuming the diskettes are the 8,334 3½" HD floppies Brainiac calculated, I measured the dimensions for a typical single diskette as:
Width = 3.5"
Length = 3.7"
Thickness = ~0.13"
and Sierra diskettes of the day weighed 20 grams (see below).
Therefore, standing upright, a column of 8,334 3½" HD floppies would be a little over 90 feet long (!) end-to-end and weigh 367.5 lbs*.
While quite heavy for a single person (or two or three for that matter), I calculate they could fit into a box with the internal dimensions of 28"W × 27.1"L× 18.5"H -- each column is 209 floppies deep, with 8 rows across and 5 layers high. A box this size is certainly unwieldy, but not overly large; the weight is the bigger issue here.
