Wow, I find that extraordinarily interesting, though not terribly surprising.

There is a huge Hollywood trend right now of taking classics or popular books and making them into movies. I only hope that Disney treats Narnia right. They aren't the first studio I would have chosen to do Narnia.

New Zealand has been used for filming rural/medieval films and tv shows for years. The entire shows of Hercules and Xena were both filmed in New Zealand. The only reason people realize it now is because of LotR.

I do remember PBS doing The Chronicles of Narnia a long time ago. That was my very first introduction into that world. It doesn't really make sense, though. 'The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe' isn't the first book of the series. Why don't they start at the beginning? What was the name of the first book again?

The first book is called "The Magician's Nephew" and most TV/Movie things start with Lion, Witch and Wardrobe because the story of the characters starts there and finishes in book 7 whereas the first book does not have those characters in it and is about how some other characters find the world of Narnia, but that book is really good aswell.

Visit Eternal Anubis - A work in Progres by Vamp.

But The Magician's Nephew does tell how the White Witch got into Narnia, also Digory is the Professor in The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. But they always like to start with the first book written. But I don't really care what order they do them in, just as long as they do them right.
The Knight

"I see in your eyes, the same fear that would take the heart of me.
A day may come when the courage of men fails.
When we forsake our friends and break all bonds of fellowship but it is not this day.
This day we fight!"

The order of the Chronicles

#16 Post by Narniansinceage7 » Wed Mar 10, 2004 11:23 pm

As I recall, the Chronicles did indeed start with The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe. Next was Prince Caspian, then The Voyage of the Dawn Treader, and then The Silver Chair. All those stories were sequential and were televised by Wonderworks for PBS. The next book was A Horse and His Boy, a prequel set during the time of the first book. The next was The Magician's Nephew, the "first" story that dealt with Diggory, the creation of Narnia, and the origin of Jadis, the White Witch. The last book, The Last Battle, was the final story and detailed the end of the world of Narnia.

Technically, starting with LWW is correct. Think of it as similar to starting with Episode 4 for Star Wars.

There has been news of a Red Dwarf movie for years now. It will be interesting to see if it actually comes to fruition this time around. I loved the series; it's too bad my local PBS station doesn't air the reruns.

"I can see the prisoner now. Ah, but now you can get Red Dwarf on DVD, and they're doing a smashing job on the season sets. And yeah, a movie has been discussed for years. I think it will happen this time. As I said, post-Star Wars.

As for the order of the Narnia books - starting with Magician's Nephew is C.S. Lewis' original intent. Somewhere along the line, the order got changed by the publisher or some such thing. If you buy the newest editions of the books, it will tell you that the books have been renumbered to conform to the original intent. Not that it really matters. I guess starting with LWW for the first movie goes along with what so many of us are used to from reading the books first as children, and perhaps better from a chronological and identifying with the characters point of view, regardless of Lewis' original intent.

As for X-Men 3, it will cost a lot more than X-Men 2 (United), because everyone will have to sign new contracts (their original contracts had a stipulation for a sequel). But apparently most of the cast want to return. Ian McKellin was worried that 2 wouldn't be as good as the original, so he never watched it until the DVD release. After he saw it, he liked it better than the first one, and immediately contacted Singer to ask about a third and to make sure he would be a part of it. But yeah, I'm really excited for a third X-Men. This has really been my favorite of the recent superhero rush to the big screen. Even more than Spider-Man. But I really enjoyed that one as well and am looking forward to Spider-Man 2.

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... Relight at: 3/10/04 6:14 pm

Yeah, X-Men 3 ought to be an interesting adventure. I just can't get myself to care one way or the other about Marvel movies anymore. It was awesome when it was all new and raw and I was a comic book fan supporting my favorite genre. Now, Marvel spits out a movie or three every year while DC's still struggling, barely able to get out Vertigo titles without extensive alteration to them. That's what depresses me more than anything else, since DC's my favorite company.

As for Narnia, who cares what the chronology is? Peter Jackson skipped over The Hobbit to make LotR, did he not? I'm sure we can start out with the Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe and be able to keep good track. Besides, LWW is the most known book out of the Chronicles of Narnia. Of course they'd make it first.
-----------------------
CrisS
Writer/PR Assistant
King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining
www.kq9.org

<img src="http://www.howtobeahero.com/images/type ...
Be a Hero.
