Print Screen is a pain in the ass if you wanna grab the animations on a screen. Send some money to the guy that wrote SCI Studio and he'll send you the new version with the capability of ripping from VGA Games.

Well, you could find a program that makes a movie of a certain area of your screen (
HyperCam is one), then use
VirtualDub to extract the frames so you can edit them.

The easiest way to do it is to printscreen twice, once with EGO on the left and the right sides of the screen, then paste the two together, without him there.

Yeah... I don't get it. The pics MMU wants to grab doesn't have background animations in it. So, grabbing two screen captures would be the simplest.

yes but printscreen requires playing the game from the start to the end.
and it captures in 640x400.
Google : sdv.exe or sdv.zip and you can work with many vga games without having to play them.
For the rest ? If sdv does not work for the game and the capture program does not save at 320x200 use dosbox play the whole game, using control plus F5 combination for saving screenshots. (example sq5 which is a dynamix interpreter, or pq1vga).
The idea of klitos is the best, if you do not mind spending some money.

No, it doesn't! I've done this on more than one occasion and I've got 320x200 everytime! Unless I'm understanding you completely wrong.

It depends what Sierra did the original game in. For example, KQ5 will grab at 320.200, KQ6 will grab at 640 x 400.

Sometimes when i push print scr it doesn't save to the clipboard. I don't know why but some games do and others don't.

Sierra's quests do. Otherwise you get a screencap application.

Go to
www.bripro.com contact Brian, we will give you SCI Studio VGA, if you donate to his site via paypal, even if its 20 bucks. Its worth it for sure.

I've got a copy of it, and so do some other Sierra game lovers. But you must also understand its not the complete version so there are bugs here and there, but they get the job done.

screencap = screen capture
*sigh* Perhaps you should tell people which screens you are looking for. I bet you'll find a few willing participants.

strange. Maybe i miss a thing here. What i did was to play the kq5 in a window and use printscreen.
Anyway it was not a good idea, because with dosbox+capture you can have automated filename increment of each screen save, and have it in its native resolution (320x200).
I am thinking seriously of purchasing the sci vga studio, but i am not sure if it can rip backgrounds AND animations of ALL sierra games. Can it do it ?

Well... even if you get 640x400, it is pretty simple to resize it down!

Every time I set it in a window it doesnt work?

Posted: Thu Sep 30, 2004 4:37 pm

yes but graphics are distorted after the resize.
Window? use dosbox if you want a window.

DOS BOX is complex.

you have to do only mount.
mount c c : \ for example to map all files-folders of your C
then you are in dos mode
