H, n! Th vwls r gn! (Oh, no! The vowels are gone!)

This is a game that I thought up last night. To see just how importaint vowels are, try to write up a guote without them and see if people can figure out what they are. For example this is what the last two sentences would look like:

Ths s gm tht thght p lst nght. T s jst hw mprtnt vwls r try t wrt p gt wtht thm nd s f ppl cn fgr t wht thy r.

I'll start this one with one of my favorite movie quotes:

Rmmbr m dd? Whn klld yr brthr! tlkd jst lk th---s!

Remember me, Eddie? When I killed your brother, I talked just like this!

Who Framed Roger Rabbit ... great movie. Although I really don't understand why my parents let me watch it as a kid.

Interesting game ...

"All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given to us."

Don't know where that's from, but a nice quote anyway.

"f ll th sls hv mt n my clnng, hrs ws th mst...*snff* th mst...*sb* SCFF RSSTNT!"

"Of all the soles I have met in my cleaning, hers was the most...*sniff* the most...*sob* SCUFF RESISTANT!"

from . . . one of the Space Quest games, right?

How about this one, from one of my favorite movies:

"T crsh yr nms, s thm drvn bfr y, nd t hr th lmnttn f th wmn"

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you, and to hear the lamentation of their women!! :evil

Isn't that the goal of every programmer? ;)

Fthrs b gd t yr dghtrs, dghtrs wll lv lk y d. Grls bcm lvrs, nd trn nto mthrs, s mthrs b gd t yr dghtrs t.

It's the chorus of a song that is popular in the U.S. right now.

Fathers be good to your daughters, daughters will live like you do. Girls become lovers, and turn into mothers, so mothers be good to your daughters too.

Ummm....

"What was it when I looked at you
What power has chained me through and through
And binds my heart with links so tight
I cannot live without the sight of you."

Not the slightest clue what that could possibly be from...

Of that place beyond the heavens, none of the world's poets has yet sung worthily, nor shall any ever do so.

I don't know who wrote that.

Try this one:

Ln, ln, ll ll ln,
Ln n * wd wd s,
Nd nt * snt tk pt n
M sl n gn.

Alone, alone, all all alone,
Alone on a wide wide sea,
And *not* a saint took pity on
My soul in agony.

A line from "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" by Samuel Taylor Coleridge. A very cool poem, for those who are into that sort of stuff.

BTW, I put asterisks around the word 'not' because I remember from the only version I've ever read of it (which I believe was original), the word there was 'never', i.e. And never a saint took pity on/ My soul in agony.

Anyway, here's another:

Hr th sldgs wth th blls--
Slvr blls!
Wht * wrld f mrrmnt thr mld frtlls!
Hw th tnkl, tnkl, tnkl,
N the c r f nght!
Whl the strs tht vrsprnkl
Ll th hvns, sm t twnkl
Wth * crstlln dlght;
Kpng tm, tm, tm,
N * srt f Rnc rhm,
T th tntnnbltn tht s mscll wlls
Frm th blls, blls, blls, blls,
Blls, blls, blls--
Frm th jnglng nd th tnklng f th blls.

This will be almost impossible to get if you have no idea of its origin. However, there's at least one word that everyone should get!

Alas, the only King's Quest games I've played are the first original and the two remakes here... been meaning to invest in the KQ Anthology for quite some time, just never got around to it. |I
