Are you sure you're telling it to remove anything? I think the default in those programs is to NOT do anything, so you have to select everything that you want removed.

Failing that, try rebooting in safe mode and doing a clean there. Also make sure you're on an administrator account.

As a suggestion, get Firefox instead of IE, and run Ad-Aware to get rid of your current spyware.

It's diffinatly removing cos it says it's gon, and when i scan again most of it comes back.

I've only got one account so it must be administration, i think

How do i rebbot in Safe Mode?

On my system, I can boot in safe mode by holding ctrl while the computer starts up. Basically, try to get the latest update for Ad Aware, but don't scan anything yet. Restart your computer in safe mode, so none of that crap loads and then try to scan your system.

my comp is loaded with that stuff as well.  unfortunetly, i'm computer illiterate.  i'm just holding my breath until i graduate in may and get a laptop .... and can start over anew.  but, that doesn't help you much.  i wish you luck, and i wish i could offer you advice.

Update Ad-Aware and Virusscan
Reboot in safe mode(restart and hold down F8 before the Load screen comes up)
Run ad-aware and virusscan, then go into the main C folder and delete the executables you don't recognize(such as installer.exe counter.exe, etc..) Also check add/remove programs for spy/ad ware software.

This is just a shot in the dark, but do you, by any chance, have Purity Scan installed on your system?  That would cause the problem.  To remove Purity Scan, delete the file winservs.exe from your Windows folder and/or your StartUp folder.

Also, quit going to "cracks", "Warez" and illegal Abandonware sites.

Not every abandonware site is full of adware and spyware. Home of the Underdogs, for example, is ridiculously professional.

Yeah, it is.  But one site that's not.....

NEVER GO THERE.

Perhaps your computer is also being Hijacked. Ad-Aware should take care of this, but sometimes, you may need to use another utility for that, like Hijack-This!

Fortuantly i run all my spy ware and virus remover programs every 2 days so they updated about 2 days ago.

I rebooted in Safe-mode ran all my scanners, than rebooted normally.
I stopped being flodded with ads but my hompeage still keeps changing, the page it changes to is on my hard disk cos it comes up even when i'm off-line. Does anyone know how to find out where this page is?

I think it all came from a crack site cos it all started the day i was looking for a winzip 9 crack.

PS. The Underdogs rock

I doubt you'll like my advice, which is format c: ;)

It seriously is my advice, though. By reinstalling Windows you can be sure you got everything.

Use IE. ;) You can have two browsers. Just don't use IE for casual surfing.

Download Avast! from download.com, it's free.  Then do a thorough scan, it can take a few hours or over night to finish.  But it'll be worth it because it finds viruses you never thought you had.

MY GUIDE TO CLEANING YOUR COMPUTER
1. get several different clearner programs
   I. Adaware
   II. XCleaner
III. HijackThis! (for web browser only)
IV. Anyother you can get for free
Before actually using these programs, go to control panel, delete any suspicious programs, ie lop Bonzibuddy, ShoppingAssistant etc, things you don't recoginize.  Be very sure before deleting anything, if you are unsure make sure to google it.  ALso it may be wise to go: Start-> Programs-> Accessories-> System Tools-> System Restore just in case.
Make sure that Internet Explorer is not running when you unistall any of these.
2. Try going to the website of the spyware creator ie lop.com to find an unistaller (sometimes actually happens)
3. Empty your temporary internet files,  then go into IE and go to your options, on the general page  click settings, then click view objects, check and see if any suspicious programs are there, ie lop toolbar  delete if you are sure you have found something
4. Another step that can be taken is kind of ovious but make sure your antivirus programs are up to date. Then scan with as many programs as possible, make sure to delete the quarantine file.

Hope this helps!!!
