I saw this on ebay, and I was shocked at it, could it be true?

You are bidding on an ORIGINAL watercolor from the Sierra OnLine studios of Oakhurst, California.  This was used for the making of the computer game Quest For Glory (most likely.)  Very nice detail and colors.  As you can see from the scan, the number 680 is written in ink below the painting.   This is obviously a final draft - the definition is awesome.  If you have bid on any of these before, this is one of the best so far.  I admit that I don't know how integral the scene is to the playing of the game, but there is a broken mirror, so that must mean something!  Shipping is 12.50 inside the U.S. and 20.00 outside.  Insurance is included.  Good luck bidding on this one!

Cool!

Here's a comparison from the scanned artwork on EBAY to an In Game shot.

The top shot is the scanned artwork, resized and cut to 320x200.

The middle shot is the scanned artwork, with the brightness down and contrast up

The Bottom is the in game shot.

You'll notice that the ledge Katrina's bed is on has an extension on it in the IN GAME shot.  Look on the left side of the ledge, near the bottom of the coffin.

Probably at some Gallery auction, a private collector, or maybe the artist himself.

I put in a bid for it, incidentally.

Status report on the auction:

The item ended up going for US$1,183. BT was sniped with less than a minute to go - after which the sniper was sniped, and someone else tried sniping as well.

You know, I've never gotten sniping... so long as eBay can be trusted, why not just put in your real maximum price and be done with it? If someone successfully snipes you then, they could have outbid you anyway.

I hate snipers, its really unfair, a sniper got me on a really good deal for SQ3.

I'm a sniper, and basically the reason I snipe is that I dont want to pay my maximum bid so I snipe at the end and get it for a lower price. Obviously it doesnt always work. But most of the time it does.

I should have phrased my question better. I understand why sniping works given that people usually don't enter what they're truly willing to spend. My question is why those of you who don't enter your true maximum price use a lower one, since that does open you up to sniping.
