What is King's Quest III Redux?
In a public poll, held on the AGD Interactive forums in June 2002, King's Quest III: To Heir is Human was voted as the most popular pick for AGD Interactive's next project after the Quest for Glory II remake had been released. At the time, the prospect of giving the original King's Quest III's plot a complete plot overhaul would probably have been considered overkill, as the original game's story is considered by many to be solid and vastly superior to its predecessor.
Even so, King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones writer Daniel Stacey found room in the original game for several tweaks and additions (not so much in the storyline itself, but rather in the structural elements behind the plot which are intended to convey the story to the player). This marked the beginning of what turned out to become the King's Quest III Redux project. This remake is not a 1:1 remake like AGD Interactive's King's Quest I: Quest for the Crown remake, nor is it a complete overhaul like King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones. Even before King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones was released to the public in 2002, Daniel Stacy had laid out the foundations for a King's Quest III screenplay that would provide the skeletal structure for a sequel.
Shortly after the release of King's Quest II: Romancing the Stones, one of our forum visitors, Sean Nichols (aka Nanyuke04), posted about his plans to remake the third King's Quest game in AGD Interactive's Game Making forum. His post was accompanied by a scripted demo of the first area of the game. Realizing that our Quest for Glory II remake would require a great deal of attention, AGD Interactive's senior staff privately offered to take on Nanyuke04's fledgling project under its wing and let it operate independently with support from the King's Quest II assisting from the sidelines. The end result has turned into an amazing game that combines the creative work of AGD Interactive's founding team with a plethora of "new" talent.
