This is the first newsletter being sent out from the Anonymous Development Team at Tierra Entertainment. We'd like
to take this opportunity to thank you for your interest in our games, and give you a warm welcome. This Newsletter is
being sent to update you on the news and recent developments of Royal Quest and the King's Quest 1: Quest for the
Crown unofficial VGA remake.
Here is a short list of what will be discussed in this edition of the Newsletter:
We're proud to announce the release of an article on the Just Adventure + website, the number one adventure site for over 100,000 readers in over 75 countries. In this article, Roberta Williams discusses her opinions on our fan-made adventure game. Be sure to check out what she has to say at Just Adventure +. The title of the article is "Why Doesn't Anyone Ever Remake Bloodwings or MTV's Club Dead?", and can be found near the middle of the page. A number of other articles have been released on various websites, as well.
As for game production, at the moment, we have almost entirely finished working on the King's Quest 1 VGA remake. Everything (backgrounds, 99% of animations, music) have been compiled in the game engine, and all major scripting has been completed. We have the game's introduction finished, too, including a nice 3D logo animation. We were in the process of waiting for Chris Jones, the creator of AGS (the game engine we are using), to finalize the beta version of his recently updated engine. The new version has recently been released, but seems to have a few more bugs in it. We still have to wait for them to be fixed before we can progress, but it shouldn't take too much longer. Then we can add the few remaining animations and scripting into the engine and start beta-testing within the next few weeks.
We had initially run into a problem because the maximum sprite limit in the old version of AGS was 1900, and King's Quest VGA required more animations than the game engine could hold. The updated version contains 5,000 slots for sprite frames, allowing us ample room for our animations. So, a special thanks goes out to Chris Jones. We plan to beta-test the game until we feel it is relatively bug free, which should probably take a few weeks or so. We may request help from fans who would be interested in helping us out with this task, but we will decide on that once the game is ready to be tested. Check the Royal Quest forums (https://www.agdinteractive.com/forum) frequently, as we will announce our decision on beta-testing there.
Once we release the King's Quest VGA remake, we will begin scripting Royal Quest full time. A few more animations remain to be completed for the Royal Quest game, and a couple of dialogues (although already written) must be finalized. But, the majority of the workload is finished. We started figuring out the scripting logic for the game last week, and it looks like it won't be too much of a chore to program. Expect to see Royal Quest finished a few months after the King's Quest VGA remake.
Royal Quest will include profane language and violence, but is not tasteless. If we were to compare it to something else, we'd say it goes in the direction of South Park (which, of course, some people find tasteless, but we find it funny) or the parody film "Scary Movie". Some people hate these things, and some love them. But, it's up to you to decide whether or not you would be offended by such humor, and if you are, then we highly recommend you do not download Royal Quest. We will provide several disclaimers when we release the game, giving you ample opportunity to discontinue downloading the game if you feel it would offend you too greatly. Because we know Royal Quest will not be everybody's cup of tea, we also plan on releasing the unofficial King's Quest 1 VGA remake, which will give King's Quest fans, who would be offended by a parody, the chance to play an old style game, but with no vulgarity.
We want to let you know that our site has received thousands of visitors in its short existence, and hundreds of people have already signed up to be notified about the game! Although you may feel that there's not much to talk about in the forums, we still want to hear from you. So, if you have the time, stop by and introduce yourself! It's always good to hear from fans. The Anonymous Game Developers would like to thank you once again for your interest in the Royal Quest and/or King's Quest 1 VGA remake projects. We look forward to hearing from you at our website:
