Make sure you have the latest drivers and that hardware acceleration is turned all the way up for both sound and video. I sometimes get problems like this if I've turned off sound acceleration to play something like Curse of Monkey Island or Wing COmmander Prophecy under XP and forget to turn it bac...

Look at Erpy's Avatar for an example of a great game made even better by a remake and some major fleshing out.* If done well, it can make the game better and not be an insult to the original.

*Though there are still some who say the SegaCD version is the only one they'll play.
