Actually, DOSBox can now run Windows 3.1.

Alternatively, just copy the disc to an image file on your computer (i.e. rip it to an iso file).  Since hard drive space is really cheap nowadays, this is what I've done for all my software CDs, the originals are stored safely away.  You can mount the image file as a virtual CD drive using a progra...

It wouldn't BE the Colonel's Bequest, then.  I'd say if you wanted characters with more depth, create your own game. That's exactly what Dump401 and his team are doing, creating their own game.  As he says in the first post, this is their interpretation of the Colonel's Bequest, they aren't trying ...

BT - thanks for the reply, your post was much more informative than your previous two sentences.  While I understand that what your saying may be some of the design process behind CB, I just happen to disagree that the game does any of this very effectively.  I'm sure I could also write a detailed p...

Just as a clarification, the hero didn't really attend any school, he attained his degree through the Famous Adventure's Correspondence School, i.e. he learned to fight brigands through the mail!   :lol

Obviously, the author of that review didn't get it.  The game revels in it's stereotypes and cliches. Blackthorne, how so?  It's easy to respond to any criticism by simply saying that the person doesn't "get it."  Do you have any insights or analysis that would support your interpretation...

I'm going to have to respectfully disagree with those who feel that the story and characters are "perfect" or "complex."  The review at http://db.gamefaqs.com/computer/doswin/file/laura_bow_colonels_bequest_b.txt gives a good list of problems with the game.  Since the author says...

It's probably obvious, but if you like playing as the thief in QfG, chances are you'll really enjoy the Thief series of games.  Imagine robbing the bank and breaking into the General's fortress in QfGV, but from the first person perspective.  There's also a huge amount of fan created content out the...

Got it!

Alright, after messing with the acsetup.cfg file directly, and the force letterbox option in the options, it is now working great (except my previous savegames no longer work, oh well).  Curiously, when I put the settings back the way they were it still works without an "out of range" erro...

KQ1VGA & LCD screens

I can't seem to get KQ1VGA working with my LCD screen.  When I first ran the program in 320x200 mode, my monitor blanked out and displayed "out of range."  When I switched the game to 640x400, I got the same result.  I finially convinced my display adapter to display at 640x400 (it wasn't ...
