AGDI - Behind the scenes?
Hi,
I've been playing KQ2VGA, and I love it, I'm astounded that a couple of people could do all that - in their free time no less!
Anyway, I'd love to get a look behind the scenes at AGDI, a "making of" if you will. How do they do backgrounds - do they start with a sketch, do it entirely on computer, paint it for real and scan??? What about animating? Voice acting - do they have a recording booth?
Is there a page with that kind of info that I may have missed on the website?
Thanks,
Janik

From what I've seen, they have generally used the old EGA background as a template of sorts. They use some type of image editing software (usually Photoshop) to recolor the background. Many images under go quite a bit of pixel editing after the artist originally thought it was done. Comments from the other team members help to perfect the background.
As far as animations go, typically an animation from an existing game is used as a base (such as the hero sprite). The base is then edited and recolored. The image is then digitally altered frame by frame until you have a nice smooth animation.
As far as voice acting goes, I haven't a clue. I wasn't snooping around behind the scenes yet when the voice pack for KQ2 was created. From my understanding though, they recruited several different people to do the voices, and then edited the recordings to eliminate background noise, ect. This helped all the voices sound similar, even though they were recorded in different places.

Why care for BETA's then, when the real thing is out?

Re:
Yeah, but this is a REMAKE, not a game from scratch. I don't think there are much things in the BETA's that will not be around in the final game.

Yea that had some hidden levels didnt it like Wood Zone and Palace Zone or something. I read they made Sonic 2 too big/long so they had to cut it.Some betas can be pretty interesting, like the Sonic 2 Beta.
You can see some of the hidden levels on the original Sonic 2 cart/rom using action replay but of course the hidden levels are in full on the Sonic 2 beta rom.

All I know is agd's busy enough with life and the remake dont need a "the making of" added to their plate. One thing for sure is : we all appreciate what they do even without knowing how they do it.
