The most evil Sierra Person
Who, might I ask, is the most evil character Sierra created?
The Space Quests, and Larrys, are out, because there was too much comedy.
So there are two left, Kings, or Glorys.
In the two series, who were the most evil?
My votes go to Kings Quest: Manannan, and Quest for Glory: Ad Avis.

Von Glower...
What? There are other Sierra games besides the "quest" series. Oh, and there were some pretty selfishly evil types in SQ2, 4, & 6.

Ima from Pepper's adventures in time, of course. Oh, and Laura Bow is pretty evil, too. I mean, the dresses she has worn while being chased by murderers are just wrong.
Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Doesn't mean they can't warrant an evil character. I thought Sharpei was pretty evil in SQ6 but nothing can beat the legend that is Sludge Vohaul. Also, nothing is quite as evil as the prostitute in LSL1, who, without protection, can take you down quite easily and most unexpectedly. A hooker with a STD beats an evil villain with plans for world domination. The Space Quests, and Larrys, are out, because there was too much comedy.

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Yeah, I'd definitely go with one of the Gabriel Knight adversaries.Schloss Ritter wrote:Von Glower...
There's also Phantasmagoria, Police Quest, etc. that are definitely not the lighthearted Sierra adventure game they're most known for.

The bad dudes from the Shivers games freaked me out. I'm not sure they're EVIL so much as unsettling though. Also, I'm sure Betrayl at Krondor and Lighthouse have very evil characters in them, if I could just stop sucking at those games enough to GET anywhere.

Oh yeah, The Dark Being is not only creepy and reminiscent of The Illustrated Man, he kidnaps a little baby for pete's sake.MeshGearFox wrote:Also, I'm sure Betrayl at Krondor and Lighthouse have very evil characters in them, if I could just stop sucking at those games enough to GET anywhere.

So does Jared, the Goblin King, in Labyrinth which was made into a game by LucasArts.Brainiac wrote:Oh yeah, The Dark Being is not only creepy and reminiscent of The Illustrated Man, he kidnaps a little baby for pete's sake.MeshGearFox wrote:Also, I'm sure Betrayl at Krondor and Lighthouse have very evil characters in them, if I could just stop sucking at those games enough to GET anywhere.
Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Well, if you get technical, that was a Dynamix game published by Sierra, though at the time Dynamix was already a subsidiary of Sierra so I guess it's a tossup if you wanna count that or not.MeshGearFox wrote:The bad dudes from the Shivers games freaked me out. What about the grandmother in Gabriel Knight? I think she had a hidden agenda

Heh-heh-heh; I was wondering how long it would be until someone went with real-world Sierra people. Leave it to Bt.Blackthorne519 wrote:Ken Williams.
Can I add Mark Crowe, Bill Davis, Rick Cavin, and Bill Scurvin to the list?

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
That's easy: The Thief Hero.
I mean come on, I sent a harmless, sad old man into the evil, monster filled forest after his long dead wife so that I could break into his house and steal what little money he had saved (probably to feed orphans).
And it's not like his friends don't know. When heading to Uhura's villiage in Wages, Rakeesh talks about his thief skills like he's got some sort of incurable compulsive disease.
You know you're a cunning bastard when even the Paladin's are falling for it.

I'm curious as to why you think Mark Crowe deserves to be included.Brainiac wrote:Heh-heh-heh; I was wondering how long it would be until someone went with real-world Sierra people. Leave it to Bt.Blackthorne519 wrote:Ken Williams.

Sludge Vohaul. I don't care if it's not allowed, he's the most evil villain. Insurance Salesmen are satanic.
Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Alright, by series...
Quest For Glory: Ad Avis is a classic figure. Cruel, power hungry, misogynistic, rather bad hygiene, bad hat, broken wrists...sorry, lost where I was going. The Dark Master (I consider The Dark Master and Katrina to be separate, sort of a case of Dissociative Identity Disorder), on the other hand, is still cruel and power hungry, but is less of a brutal destroyer than she is a manipulator, seductive and cunning. Baba Yaga is too driven by her base emotions of rage and hunger to pose any real, large-scale threat. Minos is a bitter, spite-driven old man who wants what passed beyond his reach before he was born. And the Demon Wizard is just a lackey for a much greater enemy. So my medal goes to The Dark Master, also known as Katrina.
King's Quest: Lucreto all the way. Some people are driven by their ambition to control or destroy the world. Lucreto actually succeeded, though, and he would have gotten away with it, too, if it wasn't for those meddling kids.
Space Quest: Vohaul. I mean, it's Vohaul.
Never played Police Quest.

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
To the one who suggested Ken Williams, awesome.
But may I suggest Roberta? After all she pretty much was the director of software. From KQ on, everyone latched on to her engine, and she sold out, or tried to evolve, when she should have probably kept things the same, I think KQ7 was the beginning of the downfall.
The creators of Space Quest kept true to the genre, all the way up to 6, and Quest for Glory 5 did also, even though 5 was just about 3 in my book in story and plot.
Story and plot is what always sold every "Quest" game for me, and QFG5 tried, but was just above QFG3 in that department. They tried to tie up all the loose ends, when they should have continued.
Anyone ever play Fable? A rip-off of QFG in my book.
If it wasn't for fans like us all, there would never have been a QFG5, so in the words of Arnold S, "STOP WHINING!"
I whine alot myself. Is anyone else angry that there are no decent adventure series?
Oh yeah, to the person who suggested the Gabriel Knight series for most evil, sorry. I forgot a bit about it. GK1 was one of the best games Sierra ever released. I still own it. The music, setting, plot, and graphics just sucked you right in. It was something like a great miniseries like you would see on HBO or Showtime. I am thinking of playing it again. And difficult also!!! Ms. Marx really knew what she was doing with the complex discussion topics and mystery puzzles.
No need to remake Gabriel 1!!!!!!!!
To AGDI again, awesome job on QFG2!!!!
The combat system is very difficult, almost a match to the slower machines of the time. If all you had was a 286 for the original, the combat difficulty was much similar to your version for death per match, I can see why you adapted it now. In any case, your combat system is about 25% harder and makes for a more enjoyable Trial by Fire.
Thanks. What is the official count? 4-5 years in the making? Awesome. Worth every year.

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
No one said the series was evil, but you were asking for "evil" characters. Also, heh, where did you pull that "Ms. Marx" name from? It was Mrs. Jane Jensen (from a previous marriage?), now more properly Mrs. Holmes since she married the GK producer/composer Robert Holmes. But I think she still goes under Jensen as she gained fame under that name.Katrina486 wrote: Oh yeah, to the person who suggested the Gabriel Knight series for most evil, sorry. Apparently Katrina486 confused Jane Jensen with Christy Marx, the lady behind the Conquests games.

Ah, that would explain it. That's one of Sierra's series that I haven't had much chance to look into yet.Brainiac wrote:Apparently Katrina486 confused Jane Jensen with Christy Marx, the lady behind the Conquests games.
Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Am I the only one who thinks that (please correct me if I get the names wrong here) Hanz, Franz, and Ivan (the three Mordavian villiagers in the pub in QfG4) are totally evil? Seriously.
They're willing to murder a perfectly innocent man without any proof that a crime has even been committed, all based on their fear of someone that they don't understand. People like them are all too common in the real world, their line off thinking is, "Different = Bad, Bad = Evil, therefore Different = Evil". People use that thinking to justify some pretty major atrocities, then pat themselves on the back for protecting the greater "good".
What if Igor, rather than having a minor accident, and merely needing to be rescued, had run down to the swamp to get some goo for Dr. Cranium and gotten dragged in by one of those grasping hands? The gypsy would've been burned at the stake wouldn't he?
I'll take an honest villian any day, at least you know where you stand. (And hopefully that is with your magic mirror furtively grasped) but someone willing to commit a purely evil act in the name of good? Downright frightening.

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
Frightening, but it merely makes a person ignorant, not evil. After all, when Igor returns, they don't insist to burn the gypsy at the stake anyways.

Re: The most evil Sierra Person
They couldn't very well maintain their firm belief in their own rightousness if they killed him when incontrovertible proof that the gypsy didn't murder Igor (meaning Igor himself) turned up. But they did still grumble about letting him go because he is so obviously evil and probably did do something wrong. And if Igor hadn't turned up, they would've killed him despite the total lack of proof that Davy was at all involved. I don't think it's just this specific instance that makes them evil, it is the entire mindset that they exhibit. I think when somebody turns their ignorance into a weapon, it is evil.
