ok i can climb out of the hold but thats it and the mice say nothing

The mice say a few things about you and the pirates. You just have to be patient. You can also walk back and forth, and you'll still hear them talking.

When you're out of the hold, take the time to look around. You will eventually hear an interesting conversation.

Yes it does. Only one part of the riddle actually has any significance. Ignore the rest.
