Sashanan
According to Sashanan himself, he is called the "Diamond of the Desert". I'm not sure if that's what his name means or not, but if it is, chances are the language it's from is Arabic. Everything else about that game had an Arabic theme, so why not the names, too?

~Wolfgang

Re: Sashanan
I'm not sure if the Katta's names are Arabic.. I think they are just made up. When the Katta's say their names they usually say "in the laguage of my people." or something like that.

arabic
this word looks like an arabic word to me , but it means nothing , a lot of game designers try to use such combination to give the "middleastern" feeling to their games , unfortuntley a lot of them also tries to draw a bad picture of arabs and islam and showing them as a punch of uneducated terrorists .

Shai'tan
I liked how Jordan used 'Shai'tan' in WOT, though <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> - never knew that it actually had a meaning until i was told.

Hehe.
Came across this topic while ego-surfing (i.e. googling my own name). As a QFG fan I've been using Sashanan as my handle for some years now.

Best as I can tell it doesn't really mean Diamond of the Desert in any real language, and has just been made up to sound Arabianish. Seems to be the case for most names in the QFG games, although apart from the names their language is usually accurate. The few words of Swahili in QFG3 and Greek in QFG5, for instance, are correct. Which also reminds me, Uhura tells you that her name means freedom, and in Swahili it indeed does.

Kali fornia!

Quote:
The few words of . . . Greek in QFG5, for instance, are correct.

Actually, there's a really neat joke in QFG5 which uses a mix of Greek and Latin. One of the characters, instead of saying, "Kali mera," says, "Kali fornia." "Kali mera," of course, is Greek for "Good day." "Fornia" is the latin word for "fornication." So "Kali fornia" means "Good fornication," using a mixture of Greek and Latin.

(On a tangential topic, the name "California" actually comes from "Caliph fornia," from a fifteenth-century novel about Christians retaking Constantinople from the Muslims. The name was intended to be an insult to Muslims, implying that the Caliphs, the successors to the prophet Mohammed, fornicated.)

Repline Meadow Software

The Fluxmaster

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... xmaster at: 1/22/04 3:08 pm
