gnome's name

#1 Post by mmp43 » Tue Jan 28, 2003 11:45 am

I could not get any spelling of "Rumplestiltskin" to work (forwards or back, capitalized and not) so I took a look at the executable file. I couldn't find it in there either. But I did find "ifnkovhgroghprm" in lower case. And it's the only thing that works for me. ???

Hmmm...if "Rumplestiltskin" doesn't work, try "Rumpelstiltskin" (backwards of course <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... s/wink.gif ALT=";)"> ). One of the two should work. Truthfully, I can never remember which way it's spelled! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p">

~Wolfgang

Tierra's version supports both the AGI version's name ("ifnkovhgroghprm," I suppose) and the SCI version's name, Nikstlitselpmur. I know that when I tried it first, I had the spelling wrong (basing it on Rumpel... instead of Rumple...).

Gentlemen... Did you read when I said they're not in the .exe file? Why would they encrypt every gnome's name except ifnkovhgroghprm?
I would have to ask the encryptors why they would leave only one name unencrypted if others work?
Know what I mean?

...I guess I have no idea what you mean! <img src=http://www.ezboard.com/intl/aenglish/im ... tongue.gif ALT=":p"> So you mean to say you looked at the .exe file for Tierra's version of the game and the only Gnome's name that wasn't encrypted was ifnkovhgroghprm? Well...I don't really know what to say about that. Like adeyke said, both ifnkovhgroghprm and nikstlitselpmur should work. I know that the second one works in my game and I don't think the AGDs took the ifn- name out for later versions of KQ1VGA so I guess I'm not understanding your question. Are you wondering why "x" name wouldn't work or are you simply wondering why one name isn't encrypted while the others are?

~Wolfgang

Geez. I spoke too soon. So sorry! I went back and searched the executable with Vedit (not Hackman) and lo and behold, I found rumplestiltskin spelled backwards, followed by the "You're very clever" message. Ironic.

Since we posted at almost the same time, I hadn't read your kind reply when I posted...
I was wondering about the coincidence I found--no name in executable, no work in game...
But I found the name in the .exe file now (several versions of the name, actually), and am determined to make it work. If it's in the .exe then it will work! If it doesn't, I'm going to quit and do calculus for a while!
