Re: I don't.................................................
By the way, is there a link to this werewolf productions group so I can find some info on PQ2.
This thread.
We already know what next remake would be, so this thread is pointless now. It is too big; Should be closed.

Believe it or not...
This thread is still being voted on multiple times a day. When AGD2 wishes it, I'm sure he'll close it. Until then just assume that he's gathering more input.

Let TIERRA do their work!
Frankly, I´m not too excited hearing about all these other people of "BigBadwolf" or "Spongebob" productions trying to emulate Tierra.
The guys at Tierra already proved their worth. With their revival of classic adventures, they invited everyone to try and experience what adventure games are all about. I don´t really think they meant to say "Let´s all start creating Sierra remakes like crazy"!:p
All of a sudden, everybody thinks they could "pull a Tierra". There is even people announcing projects without a single shred of work finished!:(
(The Anonymous Adventurers are more responsible than THAT! They are professional enough to not announce a project before they actually start working on it for real).
That said, I think Tierra should start working on 2 games at once:
Laura Bow 1 and King´s Quest 3.
Why? Because I don´t want anybody else to screw the chances of Tierra remaking these great games. I really would love to see what they can do with LB1 and KQ3 (and it looks like I´m not the only one who thinks that).
TIERRA RULES!:rollin

Re: This thread.
Although I doubt many people will care to admit it, lots of people have the infamous "Let Tierra do it"-stance to some degree. As arrogant as I may appear for mentioning this; I DO understand it. Tierra has proven that it can capture the feeling of the classic Sierra series very well.
It would be unfair to say that nobody but Tierra has the skills to do a remake, however. Heck, people were skeptical about us as well before KQ1VGA was released.
But our current schedule is quite busy. Telling people not to create remakes before you know for sure that WE're gonna do that game might not be the smartest thing in the world. After all, we may never start such a project. And then there's no remake at all.
It's not our place to tell people what they can or cannot do with their spare time. Only Sierra officially has the right to decide on this matter.

You are absolutely right, Erpy! Then again...
What you said is very true, Erpy. Just let me explain my point of view for a moment. I don´t have the power or the desire to order anyone to stop their fan projects. But that does not change what I think of all these Tierra-wannabes.
While it seems that I suffer from "Let-Tierra-Do-It" Syndrome (I don´t deny it, I´m actually proud of it;) ) There is a very good reason for that. Let me share my thoughts...
For the past 2 or 3 years, I´ve been visiting all sorts of fan projects around the internet. While some interesting projects seems that they will be released (sometime in the distant future), the fact is that most of them never see the light of day (and the only 3 I can remember right now - Quest for Glory 4.5; Space Quest Lost Chapter; Night of the Hermit - are just so-so games, not even half as good ol´Tierra).
I am smart enough to know that there could be other talented people capable of creating another exceptional remake, just like you guys did. That, however, is yet to happen. I never said no one could do it, but I CAN say that no one ever DID it all the way.
Let´s be honest, okay? You were very humble saying that...
"Telling people not to create remakes before you know for sure that WE're gonna do that game might not be the smartest thing in the world. After all, we may never start such a project. And then there's no remake at all."
You post was very polite, Erpy (as it should be), but just face the facts: NO ONE IS AS GOOD AS TIERRA...YET.
(there might be...there MIGHT be...)
You are welcome to show me any links to a FINISHED fan project that has the quality of KQ1VGA or KQ2+VGA.
Does anybody knows ANY other fan project that features an optional voice pack?? Better yet, does anyone ever seen a fan project with an optional voice pack featuring a voice actor from the original game (like Josh Mandel from KQ5)?
(remember that I´m asking for a FINISHED fan game)
I have VERY GOOD reasons to wait for a Tierra remake:
1) Tierra has released not 1, but 2 excellent games in a very short amount of time (for a fan project, that is);
2) Like everybody knows, Tierra has the unique combination of talent AND motivation.
(You said "It would be unfair to say that nobody but Tierra has the skills to do a remake". I say, no one else, to this very day, had the motivation to FINISH a fan project of good quality)
I have NO GOOD REASON to wait for a non-Tierra remake.
(just because Tierra MIGHT not do it is not a very good reason. I ask you: who, besides Tierra, already did it?)
The only way to cure my "Let-Tierra-Do-It" Syndrome is an excellent FINISHED fangame remake. And no drugstores in my neighborhood are selling them at the moment.
To summarize my point of view, what I actually meant in my previous post was:
Tierra proofed their worth, the others...didn´t.
(P.S.: Pretty please with a sugar on top, remake LB1 and/or KQ3).

Re: Let TIERRA do their work!
Tierra have proven their worth, and your argument is against those who are now starting or considering starting Sierra remakes, but how can they prove their worth if you won't give them a chance? It's true that others in the past haven't proven their worth, but maybe these new teams will.
As for QFG4.5, it was a good game, though it's not meant to be the quality or type that Sierra is making. Space Quest Lost Chapter is a superb classic EGA-style adventure, mirroring a different era than Tierra is doing. Lastly, I never really got into NOTH, so I can't comment on that.
I have no problem in admitting I am in the Tierra loyalist camp. You can see other points I make throughout this thread. But being creatively inclined myself, I wouldn't deny other people the chance to give it a try.

Re: Let TIERRA do their work!
Hrmm... I'm afraid that you've gotten my company's idea wrong.
I think you have it all wrong DJ. SPONGE FACTORY (not spongebob) is not "pulling a tierra"
I have been programming for 9 years. (motivation)
Our company has finished 7 games. (motivation)
I work every day to improve my art skills, which, for the past 8 years, was futile, because I always sucked, and they are just beginning to develop! I have been discouraged for 8 years of trying to improve my artwork, and I kept at it. This demonstrates motivation and talent. (because it's beginning to come into play)
I (not to brag) am a really good programmer. I am not using AGS to make my game. I'm making my own custom DirectX 3d rendered 2d quads with alpha blending capabilities and a directdraw port (so people with advanced and bad computers can use it). Also, I've developed my own scripting language for the RPG I'm making which parsers individual tokens and stores them into a data structure so that it doesn't have to refer back to the script file again. (talent)
I'm a fairly active member at gamedev.net, and have helped someone port a Direct3d SPRITE class to a directdraw class that had to have support for interpolated rotation, alpha blending, color modulation, dirty rectangles (blitting certain portions of the screen) and many other features. (talent and motivation)
Our games, although not artistically beautiful until this point, are exceedingly game beautiful. We dedicated almost all of our time making our games, and for that reason, they are beautiful. (talent)
I am currently managing an online team to work on Arean's Wish. This consists of 2 Writers, Programmer (myself), a musician, 3 artists, and 1 co-lead person. This demonstrates that I can not only "handle" making a game with multiple people, but that I am motivated enough to deal with time barriers, etc.
In conclusion, I personally think I have "proved my worth." I have spent YEARS working to where I am now. Maybe my calling isn't in artwork, and that's fine, I will be able to find an artist when the time comes for King's Quest IV. Also, to let you know, I HAVE begun work on King's Quest IV. ALthough, it's very minor, I have planned out much of the engine's capabilities, it's pathfinding methods, line algorithms, and even have a small game that I started on with a mini game engine that I developed. It is true that I haven't started doing the coding specifically for King's Quest IV is true, but I have worked A LOT on planning, and improving my art skills! In the game making forum, you can see me asking for help, so that I will be able to make a game worthy of your eyes, DJ. I have finished 7 games. 7 PLAYABLE games, that demonstrate the levels of my "talent" from their early stages, all the way up to where they are now. My plans for the King's Quest series started 9 years ago. The VERY REASON I started programming was so I could make my own King's Quest games, or even better, remake them like KQ5. I have been at this for longer than Tierra. Sure, they beat me it. But they aren't coding their own engine, which is exhausting work, I'll tell you! So please, just do a little bit of research before you say that I'm trying to "pull a tierra." Cause that is simply not the case.
Quoted from Tierra's website (not that I think that Tierra is unprofessional, but that DJ's statement about Tierra not announcing projects that they haven't actually begun a lot of work on is false.)

Anonymous Game Developer #1
We are still waiting for the update to be made to AGS. Other than that, I sent Anonymous Game Developer #2 the 3D logo animation for the beginning of the game. Anonymous Game Developer #3 is reworking his endgame dialogue to add more of a challenge to it. I made a few more royal quest animations, as well as some sprites. Other than that, I've spoken with Anonymous Game Developer #2 about making future games, and we already have a screen finished for the KQ3VGA remake. We're not sure whether we'll get around to making it, but, it's definitely an idea that we are taking seriously. We may even decide to make a KQ2VGA remake, but add a lot of new things to it to make it much better than the original. But, first, we want to get RoyalQuest and KQVGA finished before we seriously decide whether we will remake the other games as well.
DJ-- how is this not proving my worth? Did you do any research about my company before concluding this?

Al Lowe & TBC
Al Lowe has it free for download on his site:The Black Cauldron is a bit tough. Disney's one of those companies who doesn't mind lobbying to keep their grip on intellectual property or building copyright enforcing hardware into computers.
www.allowe.com/download.htm
Here's what he says:
As far as I know, these games are no longer of any interest to my friends at Disney or Sierra, so feel free to copy them and share them with your friends.
Re: *sits*..................................................
Ah, I see that newsflash is in the pre-KQ1 stage. AGD1 may have been a bit careless with that comment at that time. There's still a big difference between mentioning doing a sample screenshot of a game and actually starting work on it.Quoted from Tierra's website (not that I think that Tierra is unprofessional, but that DJ's statement about Tierra not announcing projects that they haven't actually begun a lot of work on is false.)
As for Black Cauldron; I'm aware of that quote from Al Lowe. He's right. The game, in its current form, will not arise Disney's interest. A VGA-version with graphics based on their movie most definitely will.

It wasn't supposed to be a statement against Tierra. It was simply saying that even Tierra has mentioned projects that they haven't begun work on. It's not a bad thing Imo, it was just stating a point.
