Heeeeeeellllllllllppp!!!! game's running UNUSUALLY slow

#1 Post by BwY » Mon Dec 09, 2002 3:18 am

OK, same results on 2 systems so far. On this one, it's a Windows XP box, with 512MB RAM, Geforce2GTS, 1.2ghz chip... and when I start KQ2 up, its choppier than morrowind on crack! What's wrong? I can't even watch the intro it's so choppy!

-BwY

What resolution are you running the game at? If you're not already, try running it at 320X200 and see if that fixes the problem.

~Wolfgang

I've tried it at every resolution... At 320x200 or whatever it is, the splash screen loads up smoother, but everything is still choppy.... I've closed every process, same thing still...

Even in windowed mode at the smallest resolution, its EXTREMELY choppy... i've disabled all sound and MIDI, and the video's still choppy... Any help would be great, i cant wait to play this game

Hmmm...I don't have XP so I'm not sure how everything works in that, but someone else posted the same concern here a while back. You've tried running it in full-screen mode rather than a window and it's still choppy?

Edit: <a href="http://pub57.ezboard.com/froyalquestfor ... is the other thread. Is this what seems to be happening to you, too? Note: this thread may be moved to the Technical Forum once Erpy (the moderator) gets here so if you're unable to locate it then try that forum. This seems like a problem with machines using Windows XP. Perhaps someone else can give you more information than I. Sorry!

~Wolfgang

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... s>Wolfgang Abenteuer at: 12/8/02 10:03:40 pm

Yeah, I've tried pretty much everything. I've also tried this on another box, but I was running it with WINE under linux, so I didnt exactly expect perfect gameplay on there.

Can you try installing the patch and see if that helps?

Make sure you have the latest drivers and that hardware acceleration is turned all the way up for both sound and video. I sometimes get problems like this if I've turned off sound acceleration to play something like Curse of Monkey Island or Wing COmmander Prophecy under XP and forget to turn it back on afterward.

You can check if any acceleration options have been disabled by:

Click start
click run
type "dxdiag" without quotes
hit enter

Check all the tabs for error messages and make sure all acceleration options are enabled and turned all the way up. Also check for error messages and run tests if you want. (Ignore any "this driver is not signed" messages)

Edited by: <A HREF=http://pub57.ezboard.com/broyalquestfor ... >Bester at: 12/9/02 4:58:33 pm
